It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I managed to finish two books this past week. I read:
Tricks of the Trade by Laura Anne Gilman. This was a very entertaining story in her Paranormal Investigations series. I like watching how the team is jelling and I really like watching the relationship between Bonnie and Venec. This one does spend quite a bit of time on that relationship as both try to figure out what their magical Merge is all about and how they can live with it. There are all sorts of other things to distract them from this including an Old One who wants to collect a debt and a mischief imp who has targeted Bonnie and the other Pups. My review will be posted on Nov. 10.
Circus Galacticus by Deva Fagan is a young adult book I received both from NetGalley and Amazon Vine. It is a great science fiction story. Trix is orphaned and very unhappy as a charity student at a posh boarding school. When she gets a chance to run away and join the circus, she jumps at it. She is even more eager when she finds out that they are aliens and the circus travels the stars. There are lots of great adventures and lots of self-discovery in this story. I love Trix's sense of humor. My review will be posted on Nov. 17.
I am currently reading and, in fact, having a hard time putting down The Pledge by Kimberly Derting. This young adult dystopia is about a future civilization that is ruled by a paranoid queen and that has a rigid class system. Each class speaks its own language. No one is allowed to learn any other language. But Charlie understands all languages and her little sister can heal. Charlie has to keep both things secret so that she doesn't draw attention to herself because that could lead to her execution. (See "paranoid Queen"). But she draws the attention of the grandson of the Queen and the leader of the Rebellion. So far it is a great story that I really want to get back to.
Next week I have a few more review books on my stack that need to be read really soon. The first two are on my Kindle. The last two are print books.
Lord of the Abyss by Nalini Singh is part of a multi-author series. I chose this one from NetGalley because I really like books by Nalini Singh.
Ignite by Kaitlyn Davis is a self-published young adult novel. I promised the author I would read it by the first of December.
In Her Sights by Robin Perini is a romantic suspense novel that I got through the Amazon Vine program.
Unleashed by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie is a young adult paranormal that I also got through Amazon Vine.
I want to read all of them right now. I just wish I had more reading time. Tomorrow is our teacher work day at the end of the first quarter and I am making a visit to observe and collaborate with a media specialist in a nearby district. Being the only media specialist in my school district can make it hard to develop a Professional Learning Network. I hope our meeting will be beneficial for both of us.
What are your plans for the coming week?
I have the Pledge on hold at the library!! :) Glad you're liking it!! :D

Circus Galacticus sounds fun! I don't read a lot of YA but this could be a nice one. My teenage boys are, well, boys. Would they like it, too, you think or is it a real girl's book?
ReplyDeleteStill envious of your Unleashed ARC!
ReplyDeleteKathy may I ask what the Amazon Vine program is? I've heard it mentioned but still don't know quite what it is. Thanks for your help!
Here's my Monday Wrapup
Have a GREAT day!

I'm reading The Pledge right now too. I'm not far in at all, but I'm really digging it. It's very different and I'm getting really caught up in the world building and trying to figure out what's going on.

Oooo, I would love it if I had the hair on the cover of Ignite! That's reason enough for me to read it, lol.
ReplyDeleteI finished a bunch of books that I had been reading throughout October. Most books on my list took about a month to read. Please come see what I am reading now.
ReplyDeleteGuess I'd best put The Pledge on my reading list and consider it for my library. Thanks for the recommendation.
