Book Beginnings on Friday is now hosted by Rose City Reader. The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice. Check out the links above for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week. Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.
The book I'm featuring this week is I Do Solemnly Swear by D. M. Annechino. I got this ARC as one of my Amazon Vine picks recently. This thriller will be released on Oct. 16. Here is the description:
After only eight months on the job, President David Rodgers dies from an apparent heart attack, and Katherine Ann Miles, Rodgers’s VP, becomes the first woman to occupy the Oval Office. As she tries to calm a grieving nation and adjust to her new role, Katherine must also contend with an unrelenting power struggle with Congress—the ultimate boys’ club.Beginning:
With Iran making grave threats against Israel, their troops positioned on the Israeli border, poised to attack, the new president faces her first test in quelling the explosive situation without resorting to major military options. Yet it seems danger lurks closer to home: Clues emerge, suggesting President Rodgers’s death wasn't so natural. And whoever wanted him dead has Madam President in the crosshairs—and at close range.
A traitor lies in wait as a widespread conspiracy infiltrates the highest level of government in D.M. Annechino’s third novel, a bold, fast-paced political thriller.
"The president is...dead."Friday 56:
Kate could barely suppress her seething anger. "Who approved that announcement, Charles?"First female president? Possibly murdered president? Sounds like a great story for this election season.
"I did."
"And you're comfortable with what he said?"
I saw this on but did not pick it. I like this type of story so may get it after it is released.

If the goal of an author is to write a first line that draws in the reader, then this author did a great job! I'd definitely keep reading. I also enjoyed the lines from Page 56. Sounds like a book that would keep me up reading past my bedtime.
