It's Monday, What Are You Reading? (Oct. 10, 2011)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

Well, I managed to finish three books this week. This is looking at my new normal for this school year. I don't know where the time goes. All the books I read this past week were books that I had for review.
A Lawman's Christmas by Linda Lael Miller was a nice historical romance. I like the characters in her work and the romance was realistic. My review is here.

Eve by Anna Carey was a young adult dystopia that I received from Amazon Vine. It was good but had nothing to distinguish it from the many other young adult dystopias that are filling the bookshelves these days. My review will be posted on Oct. 13.

Blood: Book One of the Mercian Trilogy by K. J. Wignall also covered well-covered ground. This is the story of a sixteen-year-old vampire who became a vampire in 1256. It did have some unusual aspects. The young vampire doesn't know why he was made a vampire, doesn't know any others of kind, and hibernates for long periods of time. My review is here.
I am doing something a bit unusual for me. I am currently reading two books. I began The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa on my Kindle but switched to Mercury Rises by Robert Kroese when I needed to charge the Kindle battery. Luckily, the two books couldn't be more different. Both of these books are also books I have for review. I need to have my review written for The Iron Knight by Oct. 27 when I will have a guest post by Julie Kagawa.

Next week, I have a couple of books that I really want to get to.
Cast in Ruin by Michelle Sagara is the latest in her Chronicles of Elantra. I love the series and really want to get to this one.

Echo Falls by Jaime McDougall is a review book. This book was pitched to me and I thought that this description sounded good:
Running from a nightmare stalking her every move, Phoebe Martin arrives in Echo Falls hoping she has finally found a safe place to stop. But trouble has a way of catching up and soon the signs are there.

After a vicious attack in an alley, policeman Aidan O'Bryan is left with Phoebe as his only path to understanding why the Echo Falls werewolf pack - his pack - is being attacked. When another pack member is killed, Phoebe is forced to confront her past before she loses Aidan and everything she has come to love.

Love and duty become one as Aidan strives to prevent Phoebe from becoming the next victim. But with Phoebe just as determined to protect Aidan and her new home, secrets from her past threaten to tear them apart. Will love give Phoebe the strength to trust Aidan and face her fears, or will her past destroy her future?
This one came out on July 15 and is available both in print and for the Kindle.

Those are my plans. What is on your agenda for the week?

  2. Echo Falls does sound good, you got lots of review request reads done, great job.

I'm happy to hear about Dracula, I was feeling a little sad that I had to put it down due to lack of interest.

  3. Totally agree with you on Eve - it seemed like it was just a copy-cut dystopia novel to me as well.
