It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (Nov. 9, 2015)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? was a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey. She has decided to pass it on to Kathryn at The Book Date.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

Other Than Reading...

We had beautiful weather for Halloween which meant 30 or so little goblins knocked on my door. This was a massive change from last year's one trick or treater. I was afraid I was going to run out of candy but the supplies lasted.

This was the last week of the first quarter of our school year so I spent the week assessing and assigning grades. I have grades on report cards for 11 of my 12 classes and just have to do the last class on Monday. Monday is an inservice/workday which I hope to use planning the lessons for the next quarter.

I will also be attending our school board meeting on Monday evening. I haven't gone to one for years and it is my turn. Our teacher's union tries to have a couple of teachers at every meeting so that we can report back to our colleagues. This one might be contentious as we are working without a contract and negotiations have broken down. I think we have a date scheduled for mediation.

At home, I spent some time catching posting my reviews on Amazon. I posted all of the reviews for the ARCs I read that were released in October.

Read Last Week
I received Dangerous Games by Tess Diamond for review this week. I was disappointed to learn that it ends with a major cliffhanger which almost requires a reader to buy the next book to get any sort of resolution. I will be buying it. Luckily it will be out later in November. So I don't have a long wait. My review for this one will be posted on Nov. 21.

Of Noble Family by Mary Robinette Kowal finishes her Glamourist Histories series and was an excellent conclusion. This one takes place on an island in the Caribbean and is filled with danger and magic. My review will be posted on Dec. 24.

Currently
I'm currently reading Closer to the Heart by Mercedes Lackey which is the second book in her Herald Spy series. I am having just a little trouble with the dialect because I find dialect in a story irritating but I like the characters very much.

Next Week
Next on my stack is Haunting Investigation by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. This mystery will be my final review of 2015. After I finish it, my calendar for the year will be full.

Tied with a Bow and My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding are anthologies that I plan to cherry-pick. I plan to only read the stories by authors I already read but will have to see how it goes.

I began my week by getting Dangerous Games by Tess Diamond for review. I also chose The Short Drop by Matthew Fitzsimmons when I was giving a choice of a free new Kindle book to read. It will be released on December 1.
I also bought two for my Kindle. Mind Magic by Eileen Wilks is the most recent in her World of the Lupi series. Pirateship Down by Suzanne Johnson has stories from her Sentinels of New Orleans world.

To see what Young Adult books I have been reading and plan to read, check out Ms. Martin Teaches Media - my other blog.

  1. I've seen Of Noble Family around a few book blogs lately, and it sure looks good! The Pirateship Down cover also caught my eye - I'm a sucker for a good pirate novel. :-)

Thanks for visiting my blog today!

  2. Good idea for the teacher's union to have someone at the school board meetings... hope it doesn't get too heated, especially if you're working without a contract!

  4. Well its hard to believe you have finished your first quarter of school,I hope the meeting is not too contentious. Why can't teachers be paid fairly!

  5. Oh nice! Those are all totally new to me books!

Wow, the first quarter is passed already?! Time always seems to move fast right after Halloween! We'll be halfway through November after the weekend and then it's Thanksgiving and good god, Christmas! I love the holidays, but I haven't started my shopping yet, which is very odd for me. Though we are trying to cut back this year in the family, so perhaps that's what's stalling me! I'm used to spoiling my mom and niece...and sister! LOL!

    Happy Reading!

    Here's my Monday Wrap-up

I finished a title last week that had a major cliffhanger too. It really made the ending disappointing for me. I hope this week is happy reading for you!
