In My Mailbox (Oct. 9, 2011)

The weekly In My Mailbox post is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren. It is fun to see what everyone else gets in their mailboxes, shopping bags, and library visits. Click on the link to The Story Siren's site to see the rules and join in the fun.

I guarantee that your TBR pile will grow when you see all the wonderful books everyone gets. You will discover lots of great blogs and lots of books that you won't be able to live without.

I got a mixed bag of books this week. I got two additions to series that I have been following.
Changes by Mercedes Lackey is the third book in this series about the early days of Valdemar and the beginning of heralds, healers and bards. It follows the story of a young person in each of those groups who all happen to be friends.

Animal Attraction by Jill Shalvis is another one of her contemporary romances. This is part of a trilogy which features young men who grew up as foster brothers. They are sweet and sexy romances with great dialog and lots of cute animal characters.

I also got a couple of anthologies this week because they contain stories by some of my favorite urban fantasy/paranormal authors.
Down These Strange Streets was chosen because of Charlaine Harris and Patricia Briggs. Any other good stories will just be icing on the cake for me.

Angels of Darkness was chosen because I like all the authors. I am really looking forward to this one.

But, wait, I'm not done yet.
I received an email that my free copy of Thawed Out & Fed Up by Ryan Brown was ready to be downloaded onto my Kindle. I don't remember ordering this one. And, after reading the product description, I still don't know why I would have gotten it.

Here is the description.
Sam Bonham—bad husband, deadbeat dad, and possible criminal on the run from the law—wanders out of modern-day East Texas into an ersatz Wild West boomtown created for a movie that never happened.  And when Sam strikes a blow against the gangsters who’ve been terrorizing the town, the locals look to him to save them. He’s no hero, but he’s stumbled upon someone who is: John Wayne. But the John Wayne of this story is not the stalwart lawman of Hollywood films—he’s a seventy-two-year-old man who had himself cryogenically frozen.  He’s weak, bald, frail…and unrecognizable to everyone but Sam.

In The Duke’s “defrosted” state, he’s not entirely himself.  In fact, he believes he’s actually Ethan Edwards, the character he played in The Searchers, one of Wayne’s most beloved films. Ethan or Duke or Marion Morrison, at his side Sam learns how to be a man, and a hero—and a pretty good shot! As he takes on the Old West gang of thugs, he finds that he might have become a family man at last. But back in the real world, someone has his eye on Sam’s wife, and if Sam doesn’t get back soon, the results could be devastating.
What do you think? I am baffled because it is so far away from anything I have read.

Last, but not least, I chose Eve by Iris Johansen while I was wandering around KMart waiting for a prescription to be filled. I had been intending to buy and read this book because I enjoy the series but I was waiting for the paperback. I must have missed it when the paperback was released but now I can catch up.

That was my mailbox. What did you get in yours?
