It's Monday, What Are You Reading? (Sept. 10, 2012)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I am preparing this post on Saturday night this week because tomorrow some friends and I are going to the Renaissance Festival near Shakopee, MN for the day. I don't think I will have much reading time (unless I get to be in the back seat of the car) and know I won't have time to write a post.

Here is what I read last week:
Clean: A Mindspace Investigations Novel by Alex Hughes is the first book in a new urban fantasy series which features a main character who is a telepath and a drug addict who is fighting for sobriety (mostly) and trying to rebuild relationships that he has trashed. He's been thrown out of the Guild and is working as an interviewer for the police department. I thought this one was very good and look forward to more in the series and from the author. The book was released on Sept. 4 and my review will be posted on Sept. 15.

Because It Is My Blood by Gabrielle Zevin is a futuristic young adult novel about a young woman who is the scion of a Mafia family who is trying to stay away from crime but is pulled back in. In this world the mafia is bootlegging chocolate which has been banned. I thought it was a good story. It is the sequel to All These Things I've Done. It will be released on Sept. 18 with my review posting on Sept. 13.
Safekeeping by Karen Hesse is another young adult book. This one takes place in a near future USA which has been put under martial law after the President was assassinated and a radical political party has taken control. Radley, the seventeen-year-old main character, has been volunteering at an orphanage in Haiti but comes home to try to find her parents in Vermont. She ends up walking from Manchester, NH to Canada as she searches for them. The book is also illustrated with haunting photographs taken the the author. The book will be released on Sept. 18 and my review will be posted on Sept. 15.

The Lost Night by Jayne Castle is the latest in her science fiction romance series. I love this author and buy her books automatically. Each of our main characters have unique psychic talents that make them unmatchable by any of the local matchmaking companies. But that is all right because they are perfect for each other. This one was very good with strong, quirky characters and crisp dialog. It also has the requisite cute dust bunny character. My review will be posted on Sept. 20.

Here are the books that are next up on my stack. These are all review books that I hope to have read before the end of September.
The Paladin Prophecy by Mark Frost will be released on Sept. 25. It is a young adult thriller.

The Assault by Brian Falkner is also young adult. This is the science fiction story of a group of young people who infiltrate the headquarters of the alien enemies who are attempting to take over the Earth. This book will also be released on Sept. 25.
Run the Risk by Lori Foster is a romantic suspense title also being released on Sept. 25.

Shades of Temptation by Virna DePaul is another romantic suspense title. This one is being released on Sept. 18.
Dearly, Beloved by Lia Habel is a futuristic young adult novel that features zombies which is usually a deal breaker for me. However, I really enjoyed Dearly, Departed and have to read this one to find out what happens next. This book is also scheduled for a Sept. 25 release.

Cast in Peril by Michelle Sagara is the most recent in this fantasy series. I have enjoyed all the others and look forward to reading this one too. This one is a Sept. 18 release.
Chasing the Skip by Janci Patterson is a contemporary young adult title. This title won't be released until Oct. 2.

League of Strays by L. B. Schulman is also an contemporary young adult title which will be released on Oct. 1.

Here are the reviews I posted this week:

My first week of school was both fun and very busy. Working sure does cut into my reading time though! :-) How was your week?
