TBR Pile (June 4, 2014)

Hello. My name is Kathy and I am a bookaholic.

It is time for a look at my TBR mountain. Here are the print books that are waiting patiently for me to find the time to read them.

Section 4
I don't have a TBR shelf. I have a TBR room. LibraryThing tells me that I have 1431 unread adult books. Fortunately, given the size of my house, about 800 of them are Kindle books.

These books are more or less in alphabetical order by author. Anthologies fill most of the top shelf.

How would you tackle this problem? Finish series already started? Look for favorite authors? Begin at top left and keep going? Read the ones that have been on the stack the longest first? (Some have been here at least since Feb. 8, 2008 when I entered the first books in my LibraryThing account.) Would you read the newest first?

I need a plan and admit that I am at a loss for a good one. I'm planning to bring at least 20 of these beauties home with me for the summer to read between review books and young adult books. Which ones should I take?

  1. Wow - that is incredible! I would be totally overwhelmed. I tend to get rid of books after they've sat on my shelves for too long and I know I'll never get to them. I am influenced too much by new shiny books that the old books get neglected and forgotten about. I have more books on my Kindle than I will EVER get to read because it's just addicting!

I'm a mood reader, too. That makes planning books ahead to read almost impossible. Thank goodness for my Kindle and so many options. But sometimes having too many options isn't a good thing. :)

  2. If you figure out a way to tackle this let me know! That's a pretty impressive stack of books and it does make me feel a little better about my TBR. The times I've tried to read strictly from a First In system I've ended up in a major reading slump.
Maybe go through your list from oldest to newest and grab the 20 that interest you? If all else fails there's always the foolproof eeney meany miney moe system! Good luck! I'm interested to see what you end up with!

  3. I'm a mood reader, and also now read 99% on my kindles, so I don't have your predicament. If you have a list of the titles somewhere, I would do what another commenter said and pick out the titles that jump out at you and conquer them first. Then, for organization, I would group the books together according to genre, at least loosely. I wish I had your problem; you have a goldmine of books waiting to be discovered!

  4. Oh wow. Now I don't feel so bad about my own TBR pile. It might fill one shelf's worth, but that would include the few Kindle books I have to read still too!

Hmm...I'd say start with one of your oldest ones first. When there's soooo many to choose from, it can be best to just choose the oldest TBR book first. Or if you know of one you have to read asap, choose that one of course!

Right now I am working my way through review books, taking a break for a few new releases, but once I get through all that. I'm likely going to an older TBR book, but mostly likely one that hasn't been there since the beginning.

You could always pull a title out of a hat too! ;)
