Friday Memes: The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston

Happy Friday everybody!
Book Beginnings on Friday is now hosted by Rose City ReaderThe Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice. Check out the links above for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week. Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

This week I am spotlighting The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston. It is her newest book and begins a new series. Here is the description from Amazon:
Kera Watson never expected to face death behind a Los Angeles coffee shop. Not after surviving two tours lugging an M16 around the Middle East. If it wasn't for her hot Viking customer showing up too late to help, nobody would even see her die

In uncountable years of service to the Allfather Odin, Ludvig "Vig" Rundstrom has never seen anyone kick ass with quite as much style as Kera. He knows one way to save her life--but she might not like it. Signing up with the Crows will get Kera a new set of battle buddies: cackling, gossiping, squabbling, party-hearty women. With wings. So not the Marines.

But Vig can't give up on someone as special as Kera. With a storm of oh-crap magic speeding straight for L.A., survival will depend on combining their strengths: Kera's discipline, Vig's loyalty... and the Crows' sheer love of battle. Boy, are they in trouble.
Beginning:
She didn't know what woke her up.

The lightning and thunder crashed outside the bedroom window? A rare think in the beginning of an L.A. summer; so maybe. Or the fact that she was in a strange bed? Or the fact that she was naked in a strange bed?
Friday 56:
Kat counted to five. She needed to count to ten with some of the other Ravens, but for her brother, she was able to calm herself down in five.

  1. naked in a strange bed! That could in so many different directions. Makes the reader feel self-conscious and exposed, but also excited to know more!

  2. I have different people that need different methods of calming down with, so the 56 definitely is a good one.
