It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (June 1, 2015)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

Other Than Reading...

The big event this week was a retirement party for two of my colleagues from the Elementary School. Both had worked at this district for almost 40 years and both are looking forward to spending time traveling and visiting family. I was a little envious but I just have one year left and then I will retire too.

Our weather is alternating between lovely days in the high 70s and days with thunderstorms. Why is it that the outdoor activities always happen on the days with storms?

Our last teacher workshop/workday of the year is Friday. Students finish on Thursday at about 1 PM. At the Elementary we have been doing workshop sorts of activities since the kids finished on May 22. It is getting harder and harder to move around the building as the construction people and displaced stuff seem to be everywhere.

It being the end of the month, I also caught up on posting my reviews to Amazon for the May releases from my review stack. I post to LibraryThing and GoodReads when I finish reading a book but have to wait until the book is released at Amazon.

Read Last Week
I began Gabriel's Redemption by Steve Umstead but abandoned it at 33%. It had all the things I don't like about Tom Clancy's fiction - exhaustive descriptions of vehicles and weapons - without the things I like about Clancy - fast moving plot and interesting, well-developed characters. It was even worse because this was a science fiction book and all the spaceships and weapons were imaginary. I just couldn't go on because nothing really happened in the first third of the book.

Dragon Actually by G. A. Aiken (a pen name for Shelly Laurenston) was a fun dragon romance with quirky characters and spicy love scenes. This one had been on my TBR mountain since 2010. My review will be posted on June 17.

Currently
I chose Boundary Crossed by Melissa F. Olson from my TBR mountain to read next because I was in the mood for an urban fantasy.

Next Week
For next week, I dug deep in my TBR and pulled out Lick by Kylie Scott. I have the whole 4 book Stage Drive series on my Kindle. Books 3 and 4 were Kindle Daily Deals this year.

I also bought House of the Rising Sun by Kristen Painter this year and want to read it this year.
