Friday Memes: Total Eclipse by Rachel Caine

Happy Friday everybody!
Book Beginnings on Friday is now hosted by Rose City Reader. The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice. Check out the links above for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week. Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

This week I pulled another book from deep in my TBR mountain. Total Eclipse by Rachel Caine is the 9th book in her Weather Warden series. I bought it on July 16, 2010. Here is the description from Amazon:
Weather Warden Joanne Baldwin, her husband, the djinn David, and the Earth herself have been poisoned by a substance that destroys the magic that keeps the world alive. The poison is destabilizing the entire balance of power, bestowing magic upon those who have never had it, and removing it form those who need it. It's just a matter of time before the delicate balance of nature explodes into chaos-and doom.
Beginning:
My name is Joanne Baldwin, and I used to control the weather as a Weather Warden. These days, I can also control the forces of the earth, such as volcanoes and earthquakes, and the forces of fire. Don't ask—it's a long story. Just go with it, okay?
Friday 56:
There was still a trace of Djinn in there somewhere; I could just feel it—even if it was only a memory of power. It made him fearless, and a little bit crazy.

  3. Wouldn't it be great to be able to control the weather? I'm guessing that's the question the author asked herself before she started writing this book! I hope you're enjoying the story.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I appreciate your comments.

  4. You seem to be making great progress on your TBR mountain! This sounds interesting and I could seriously use the ability to control the weather but have a feeling all is not fun and games for her.

  6. Hmmm this sounds interesting! I feel like potentially the plot might be a litle bit farfetched but if the author works well with it then I'm all for it! Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have a great week!

  9. Hi Kathy,

This is a new to me author, although to be fair, fantasy isn't a genre I read, so that's not a big surprise!

I admire you being able to actually relieve your TBR mountain of a few books. I just seem to have more and more review requests being received and added to the top of the pile, which I end up by working on first. Promotional posts are written as and when needed, however my full reviews are seriously behind schedule and require urgent attention!

I like the fact that Joanne can control not only the weather, but also many other weather related phenomenon, although that could also be a very dangerous game to play, especially when her attitude is simpy "Just go with it, okay? " Would I like the job of controlling the balance of weather conditions, without screwing things up somewhere in the world ... definitely not!

Enjoy the rest of the book and thanks for sharing :)

  10. Sounds like a great book! I love how chatty it is! The "just go with it, ok?" bit is fantastic, I think I'd definitely get along with this one x
