It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.
Other Than Reading...
School started this week for teachers. Between workshops, work time, and Open Houses, I was in one school building or another for 41 hours from Monday through Thursday. Then there was the time I spent on my computer at home. I got up Friday morning and was glad to have a "couch day."
I didn't have big plans for the Labor Day weekend. I was invited to a friend's daughter's wedding on Saturday which was very nice. It was good to catch up with some old friends that I don't see nearly often enough. It was also nice to just spend time at home reading and relaxing.
I'm as ready for the kids walking in the door on Tuesday as I can be and excited to be starting my 40th year as a school librarian/media specialist.
August Report
I read 33 YA and Adult books this past month. Twenty of the books were review books. I read sixteen young adult books. Fifteen of them were review books. I read 11,807 pages. I have reviews scheduled through the first two weeks of November and have finished reading all my September, October and November releases.
I added 47 books to my stack in August and have read five of them. Sixteen of my new books were books I received for review.
I am not doing very well on either of my goals. I wanted to reduce the number of books on my TBR pile. I currently have 2152 books there. Some have been there since 2008. My second goal was to try to read all the adult books I bought in 2015 this year. Currently there are 56 that I haven't read yet.
Read Last Week
I got Silent City by Carrie Smith this week from Crooked Lane Books. I really enjoyed this mystery. The main character is just coming back to work after a battle with cancer and her first case is the murder of a school principal. I loved trying to figure out the murderer along with the main character. My review will be posted on October 7 for this October 13 release.
Currently
I am currently reading When Gods Die by C. S. Harris. It is the second book in the Sebastian St. Cyr historical mystery series which I just discovered this summer.
Next Week
I hope to get a chance to read Way of the Warrior which is an anthology with stories by a number of authors I enjoy.
I also want to read Without a Summer by Mary Robinette Kowal which continues her Glamourist Histories series. I have been enjoying this historical fantasies.

Lady of Magick by Sylvia Izzo Hunter is a printer keeper copy. I read the eARC and liked it enough that I wanted to own it.
Archangel's Enigma by Nalini Singh is the latest in her Guild Hunter series and is a Kindle copy.
Silent City by Carrie Smith is a print ARC that I received from a publicist for Crooked Lane Books. It will be released on October 13.

My It's Monday, What Are You Reading
I hope you are coping with your allergies. You amaze me - reading 33 books in a month. Wow. I have never tracked my page numbers. I can barely keep up with the weekly 3-4 reads and reviews (plus memes). No time for extra tracking.
ReplyDeleteYou have several series mentioned here that are getting my attention: Harris, Kowal and Raybourn.
40 years - good going! Enjoy the first week or your new school year.
Congratulations on your 40th year! May it be the best one yet. I discovered a couple of new authors by reading Way of the Warrior. Looking forward to A Curious Beginning.
ReplyDeleteVery best wishes for your 40th year of teaching. You have quite a stack there of TBR, thought mine is bad enough, but yours sure outweighs it. I am reading Archangel's Enigma at present, well almost finished - another satisfying read.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of books to have read. Congratulations on your 40th year.
ReplyDeleteWow, I wish I had time to read that many books! Or that I was fast enough to do it. Very exciting for your 40th year! I figured out that this was my 20th year in education, 17 as a teacher, 3 now as a librarian.
