It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.Want to See What I Added to My Stack? links to Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
Other Than Reading...
This was a nice week. The weather was warmer than average and some of the little bit on snow on the grass melted away. However, it is snowing right now as part of what is supposed to be a rain/snow mix through Monday. Total accumulation is supposed to be an inch or so here where I live. Further north up the shore of Lake Superior they are looking at 8 inches.

My gastro appointment went well. I don't have to go back for a year if the symptoms I experienced in September don't recur. The roads were fine on Friday when I was my brother's designated driver after his pupils were dilated at his eye appointment.
We had two successes in new recipes this week. We had a really delicious Salmon and Broccoli bake and an excellent beef stew in the crockpot. We finished the Salmon and Broccoli last night. There is still a quart of stew in the refrigerator for leftovers this week.
We bought a new washing machine recently which will be delivered on Monday. The handyman who was needed to remove the trim around the door opening to the laundry closet came and removed it on Thursday. He'll be back to replace it once the new washer is installed. Out laundry closet is so narrow that we couldn't get the old washer out and the new one in with the door trim in place. My brother has wanted a new washer since we moved in but neither of us could figure out how they got the washer and dryer in the closet in the first place. However, once the washer started making weird noises, we had to figure things out. I'm just hoping that the installers will actually be able to get the old washer out. I'm not worried about fitting in the new one since it is an inch or so narrower than the old one.
The big excitement for me this week was the fact that our internet went out for twelve hours on Saturday. The outage demonstrates how much of my life is tied to internet access. I could finish my current Kindle read but wasn't sure what the next one on my stack should be since I didn't have access to my Google calendar or LibraryThing. Theoretically, I could have gone to Google on my phone but that isn't what I use my phone for and didn't think of it. I also find it kind of ironic that my internet provider gave me email updates on the repair process via my email which I didn't see until my internet was restored. Yep -- USE THE PHONE!
Otherwise, next week should be quiet and appointment free.

Oh, a Busybody Book Club! It seems there is a book club for everyone!
ReplyDeleteGood news about the gastro issues...and the washing machine. Bad news about the Internet!
ReplyDeleteLots of crime there -I like the title of the Incident of the book one, like the Haddon book.
ReplyDeleteYea, I'm always amazed to get email updates when your internet is out. Really people. I am getting ready to start The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year next week as I already have it out from the library. I also LOVE the looks of Mask of the Deer Woman and need to look into that one some more. Congrats on the new washer and hope installation goes without a hitch!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a nice week. Your meals sound yummy. I wish the family ate more leftovers. I'm usually the one who finishes them. We invested in a generator in 2012, and it has been wonderful. Doesn't help with the internet outages in a storm, but at least I can keep working on saved documents.
ReplyDeleteSo many good books on your list this week. I really shouldn't add more to my list. Hope you enjoy your reading week. Thanks for visiting my blog today.
I can fully attest that not having internet really sucks! Lol. Our internet bottomed out earlier this year for some reason and yeah, we couldn't do anything! I work from home, but luckily could use my phone as a hotspot, we still had power so I'd have enough juice to get through my day. But yup, totally sucks. I think we watched movies the old fashion way that day! Lol.
ReplyDeleteNice line up of reads! More new to me ones but I hope you enjoy your picks for this week!
Here's my Monday Wrap-up
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
When my son's dryer went, they had to take out a wall to remove it and bring in a new one. Then of course, the wall had to be rebuilt.
ReplyDeletemy ipad automatically uses my phone as a tether when the internet goes down. This is not good when I am not aware that this is happening and end up with a huge bill for data.
We will be eating leftover lasagna for a night or two this week.
It’s interesting that some bloggers wrap their last week up on Monday while others of us do on the weekend. I feel like you may be able to comment more on my weekend post which I post on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteSo many great books on your list. I have a few of those on my list too. I hope you enjoy them. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI will be eager to read the review of Light on Bone. Georgia O'Keefe as a detective is an interesting twist.
ReplyDeleteOoh, good luck with the washing machine. It's so irritating when builders don't think ahead to the inevitable replacement and build in a little wiggle room.
ReplyDeleteThe Busybody Book Club sounds like fun! As does a cozy mystery starring Georgia O'Keefe.
