It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.Want to See What I Added to My Stack? links to Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
Other Than Reading...
Other Than Reading...
This was an interesting week with roller coaster temperatures. It hit 42 degrees on December 5 and -18 degrees on December 12. We've also had snow, rain, fog, and strong winds off and on all week.
Our new washer was delivered on Monday morning and the handyman came Monday afternoon to replace the door frame. Our cleaning team came on Friday afternoon. In the middle of the week, I unplugged my car which spends long stretches of the winter attached to a trickle battery charger and went to the grocery store because I was craving caramel rolls and wanted to make my own. I got the last bag of Rhodes frozen cinnamon rolls in the store. Rolls were accomplished and mostly eaten by now.
I had a bad reading week. Both of the next two review books on my stack are going really slow but for different reasons. One has a heroine I'm finding too perky, and the other heroine is depressed and self-destructive. Thus far, the mysteries aren't compelling enough to get over the annoying characters. I find myself reading a couple of pages and then losing myself in Facebook Reels. This week I've watched a lot of people thrifting and haunting garage sales for things they can resell for a profit and a couple of skinny women who travel a lot and show all the delicious meals they have along the way.
I did listen to the last six books in Ilona Andrews Hidden Legacy series. These were all rereads and as action-packed and romantic as I remembered.
I added six new books to my review stack including two Children's books by Julie Campbell. As far as I can tell these are rereleases of books written many years ago. There is no indication that they have been rewritten to update them, but I'll see. I remember reading the Trixie Belden books for the first time as a young teen when I devoured the whole series. It was about the same time I was reading Nancy Drew and the Hardy boys.
I also bought a couple of audiobooks in series I'm currently reading. I already had the Kindle copies but wanted to hear them. In a "blast from the past," I bought a collection of the first five Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter books when BookBub offered it in a deal that was two good to pass up. I mean, $2.99 for five books! Who could pass that up? BookBub also had the first in Tamora Pierce's The Legend of Beka Cooper for $1.99. I did decide to get books two and three for regular price ($9.99). Luckily, I did this on a double reward points day. I'm getting close the number of points needed to redeem for $3 off an ebook. I already have the series in hardcover in my keeper collection, but I like reading on my Kindle more these days. In fact, I may also get the audiobooks when I actually fit them onto my calendar.
There was no exciting cooking at our house this week. We are still working on the leftover stew from last week though I should finish it today. Bill did use his coupon for his December pizza from Sammy's on Saturday night which he brought home after work. With his work schedule being mostly 11 AM to 7:30 PM or 4 PM to midnight, both of us are eating spur of the moment things rather than planned meals.

Those are some weather temps! We usually don't get that extreme but anywhere around 20 degree jumps is pretty standard!
ReplyDeleteThese are more new to me reads but I hope you enjoy them this week!
Here's my Monday Wrap-up
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
We had some weird temps last week too. Up and down. It will be the same this week from what I can see.
ReplyDeleteI've had those same issues with books lately so I can't blame you for setting some of them aside.
I've been making my way through the old Nancy Drew books and this year I will be starting on some Hardy Boys ones as well.
Have a great reading week!
Those temps sound crazy. Brrr.... That happens to me sometimes where the characters just annoy me. I'll put the books down and come back at a later time. For some reason, it works when I take a break and come back later. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever experienced temperatures that cold. We might get down to -5 or so in the NC mountains but that's rare and as low as it gets. I wouldn't know what to do if it were any colder!
ReplyDeleteCaramel rolls sound delicious!
