It's Monday, What Are You Reading? Dec. 3, 2012

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I had a really slow reading week this past week. I had something - meetings or appointments - after school each day and the books on my stack just weren't very engaging.

I finished:
Tears in Rain by Rosa Montero is a science fiction thriller where the main character is an android. I thought the concept was interesting but I thought the story felt long and I was disappointed in the resolution of the thriller part of the plot. You can see my review on Dec. 6.

Under the Desert Moon by Emma Meade was a young adult book sent to me by the author for review. I thought it read very much like a first novel. The characters were inconsistently portrayed with the main character seeming too mature for her age. It was also a case of "instant love" which I find hard to identify with. It was somewhat similar to Twilight in that regard but the main character was less of a "wet noodle" than Bella was. This review will also be posted on Dec. 6.
I am currently reading The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken and finding it a slow read too. I find myself putting my Kindle down and going off to do more interesting things (like sorting my sock drawer). I recently read a post from someone who thought it was the best book she read this year but I'm not seeing that myself. It is also very long.

My next week's plans are pretty much the same as last week. I still have these four books to read in December.
She Can Tell by Melinda Leigh (Dec. 4)
Guardians of Stone by Anita Clenney (Dec. 4)
Scent of Magic by Maria V. Snyder (Dec. 18)
Gold by Chris Cleave (July 3)

Since these are all adult books, I'll be climbing TBR mountain to find my next young adult choice. Shadow's Edge by Maureen Lipinski should be my first choice because I have the sequel on my stack for a January review.

Right now, this week looks much less busy than last week. Things could change after I talk to my doctor's office on Monday. She wants me to have some allergy testing before I see her again on Dec. 16 which means I have to schedule something with an allergist and fit in the testing soon. At least, I have 90% of my Christmas shopping done and think the rest can be handled with gift cards. I should have more reading time. I hope the books on the stack are more engaging this week.

What are your plans for the week?

  1. My week was slow too. I was catching up on Downton Abbey. Congrats the Christmas shopping!

  2. I hope you'll be able to get to your books this week Kathy :)

When you're done shopping you could finish up my list right? ha ha

  3. Congrats Kathy I notice you have met your Goodreads goal of 250 books as well!
I;m jealous you have your Christmas shopping almost done, I haven't even started

  5. It's hard to find time to read when the books aren't calling to of my vows for the New Year is NOT to accept any books for review that I don't think I'm going to love. And...yes, I can sort of tell.

Thanks for sharing...and here's MY MONDAY MEMES POST

  6. So what did you think of the Chris Cleave book? We read Little Bee for my book group a few months ago and my goodness...everyone else loved it but I just didn't get it at all. :/
Have a wonderful reading week! Whatcha readin' this week @ the Brunette Librarian :)
