It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (Feb. 10, 2014)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

Last week was Snowball at our school which caused some excitement and chaos. Two of my groups of sixth graders managed to hit the most disrupted days and every class they had was shorter than their peers in the other sections. We have been working with Google forms to make surveys. I think there are still some students who haven't sent their surveys out. Whereas, the other groups have sent theirs out and even sent out follow ups to get more responses. I doubt that I'll ever get the sections back in sync.

This coming week will be disrupted in a different way. We have parent-teacher conferences Monday and Tuesday evenings. That makes my school day particularly long. I'll be working from 7:30 AM to 7 PM both nights. However, we do have Friday off to make up for the extra time earlier in the week. Since I very seldom see any parents, I should be able to get some reading done. Once I get home, I think the Olympics will trump any additional reading time. I really like figure skating but I tend to watch anything that's on.

I also have Wednesday off this week for a medical procedure. It is time for another colonoscopy. I have had quite a few. I don't mind the procedure but really hate all the preparation that has to be done before it.

Read Last Week
To Make a Match by Liana LeFey was an enjoyable historical romance. My review will be posted on Feb. 12.

Locomotive by Brian Floca won the Caldecott Award this year. I loved the amazing pictures. I can't wait to share this story about the Transcontinental Railroad with my students.
Moth and Spark by Anne Leonard was a excellent epic fantasy story. I loved the romance too. I thought the world building was very well done. My review will be posted on Feb. 19.

Burn Bright by Bethany Frenette was very good too. It is the sequel to Dark Star which I reviewed earlier. It is a contemporary fantasy set in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. My review will be posted on Feb. 20.

Currently
A Taste Fur Murder by Dixie Lyle is my current book. I am at about 38% of this mystery. It has been entertaining so far.

Next Week
Thrown for a Curve by Sugar Jamison is a romance I got from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley. It is a Feb. 25 release.

Waking Up Pregnant by Mira Lyn Kelly is a romance I got from Harlequin via NetGalley. This one is a March 1 release.
My YA books for the week are also all from my review stack.

Unforgotten by Jessica Brady is from Macmillan and will be released on Feb. 25.

Nil by Lynne Matson is from Macmillan and will be released on March 4.

The Blood Guard by Carter Roy came from NetGalley and will also be released on March 4.

  1. The Olympics will definitely interrupt my reading time! I read during the commercials. LOL

  2. Must be frustrating to get your classes out of sync, but oh to have parent interviews where not many parents turn up - envious. Not watching the winter olympics really, although my class could tell me where they are so no doubt they are following it.

  6. Oh, there is nothing worse than colonoscopy prep....then the procedure is so quick. Wish they would come up with a better way! LOL

  13. I never watch sports of any kind but I am always glued to the Olympics! My husband is 8 years older than I am so he's already started his colonoscopies. I thought he would be a nightmare to live with during the prep time but he was his normal cheerful self. I told him he set the bar too high--I won't be able to complain when it's my turn! Good luck with yours and enjoy your busy week!
