Description: Abby Wade has a dangerous secret.

Two months ago, she disobeyed an order, but instead of kicking her out of the Pride, Jace offered her a job. Since then, she’s been battling a completely inappropriate crush on the young, hot Alpha. But when accepting his job offer seems like the only way to keep her skeletons safely in their closet, Abby doesn’t hesitate.

Jace Hammond has a big problem.

A rogue is slaughtering humans in his territory, and he must eliminate the threat before the entire shifter species is exposed. There could not be a worse time for Abby to accept a job he only offered as a boost to her confidence. Abby is smart, beautiful, and resilient—more than enough to distract any man from the mission. Unfortunately, she may just be the worst enforcer ever to hold the title.

As they hunt the killer, Abby’s secret becomes a threat to Jace’s authority and to her own life. But the real danger is the grip she has on his twice-shy heart.

My Thoughts: Abby Wade is keeping secrets. She has been living in Alpha Jace Hamilton's area while attending college. Having attracted the attention of hunters who want to exterminate all shifters and mount their stuffed heads on their walls has caused all sorts of problems. And then, Abby is keeping a dangerous secret.

Abby is engaged to an enforcer working for her father but she isn't eager to marry. She became engaged to him as a way to protect her from all the other Toms who would be courting her if she were available. She needed a chance to overcome the trauma of her kidnapping and rape and was hoping that she would fall in love with Brian. That didn't work. In fact, she's dodging his phone calls. She is attracted to Jace Hamilton and he is attracted to her. But Jace isn't going to do anything about the attraction. Abby's under his protection and engaged to another man. Jace knows what it is like to love someone he can't have and is determined not to fall in love with Abby.

Abby has other plans for them. She needs to become one of Jace's enforcers in order to protect the secret she is keeping. However, Abby isn't a very good subordinate. She questions all of Jace's orders and does her own thing which threatens his authority in his own territory and with the other Alphas. Until I knew her secret, I was a little annoyed with Abby for the way she was treating Jace.

This story is told from both Abby and Jace's points of view. I liked the chance to revisit the world of the werecats. I liked that this one emphasized the romance as much as the politics. I can't wait to see what happens next for Jace and Abby.

Favorite Quote:
Jace turned when he heard me coming, and a little thrill of satisfaction warmed me from the inside when his scruffy jaw actually dropped a little. But then he spoke, and the warmth died. "What happened to the rest of your skirt?"

"I left it in the nineteenth century."
I bought this one for my Kindle. You can buy your copy here.
