Book Review: Magic Triumphs by Ilona Andrews

Magic Triumphs
Author: Ilona Andrews
Series: Kate Daniels (Book 10)
Publication: Ace (August 28, 2018)

Description: Mercenary Kate Daniels must risk all to protect everything she holds dear in this epic, can't-miss entry in the thrilling #1 New York Times bestselling urban fantasy series.

Kate has come a long way from her origins as a loner taking care of paranormal problems in post-Shift Atlanta. She's made friends and enemies. She's found love and started a family with Curran Lennart, the former Beast Lord. But her magic is too strong for the power players of the world to let her be.

Kate and her father, Roland, currently have an uneasy truce, but when he starts testing her defenses again, she knows that sooner or later, a confrontation is inevitable. The Witch Oracle has begun seeing visions of blood, fire, and human bones. And when a mysterious box is delivered to Kate's doorstep, a threat of war from the ancient enemy who nearly destroyed her family, she knows their time is up.

Kate Daniels sees no other choice but to combine forces with the unlikeliest of allies. She knows betrayal is inevitable. She knows she may not survive the coming battle. But she has to try.

For her child.

For Atlanta.

For the world.

My Thoughts: This is the conclusion of the Kate Daniels series. Readers have watched Kate grow from a secretive mercenary to a wife, mother and protector of Atlanta. She and Curran are adjusting to being the parents of thirteen-month-old Conlan who seems to be exhibiting new talents every day and who is broadcasting magic like a lighthouse.

Kate and Curran are preparing for Kate's father Roland to attempt to retake Atlanta. They are not expecting an even greater threat to happen first. It starts with a rather odd gift - a box filled with ash, a red rose, and a knife. Then there are settlements attacked by a mysterious something that kills everyone and boils them into a sludge in order to steal their bones.

Kate and Curran call on all their allies to form an army to defeat this new threat. But they can't do it without Roland - and they can't trust Roland.

This was a wonderful finale to Kate and Curran's adventures. I loved seeing Kate and Curran's relationship and learning what each would do and sacrifice for the other. I loved getting to know baby Conlan. It was nice to catch up with many of the characters from earlier books in this series.
