It's Monday, What Are You Reading? (Feb. 14, 2011)

It's Monday, What are you reading is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

Last week I read:
Demon Song by Cat Adams -- third in a series about a young woman who started as a bodyguard but has become a vampire-siren-human hybrid. Great urban fantasy with a very sympathetic and realistic heroine. My review will be posted on Feb. 19 and the book will be published on March 1.

Primal by Lora Leigh -- This is a bit deceptive. I bought the book for the Lora Leigh story and only read it. There are three other stories in the book that I didn't choose to read at this time. My review will be posted on Feb. 16.

Game for Anything by Bella Andre made me break my book buying ban because it was 1) on sale, 2) had a great cover, and 3) is a romance about a professional athlete. I read it and really enjoyed it. My review will be posted on Feb. 17.
Too Many Frogs by Sandy Asher -- I don't usually include the picture books that I read each week to my first and second grade classes but this one was recommended by a fellow teacher. It is a story about the joy of sharing books with friends.

Deed So by Katharine A. Russell was sent to my by that author for review. I will be a stop on her blog tour March 7 and 8. It is historical fiction about the turbulent early 1960s told from the viewpoint of a bright Southern girl who is almost 13. I enjoyed the story very much but wonder how well it will connect with today's young adults. I recommend it to adults who may have lived in the time period or who are curious about it. It was well-written. My review will be posted on March 7.

The Vespertine by Saundra Mitchell is a historical paranormal romance that I received for review from NetGalley. I thought this one was also well-written and entertaining. The book will be published on March 7 and you can see my review here.

I am currently reading:
The False Princess by Eilis O'Neal -- This is a 2011 YA Debut Author book. It is also a fantasy novel. Sinda has been raised as a stand-in for the real princess. When she turns sixteen, she learns she isn't the real princess and is sent away to live with an aunt who didn't even know she existed. She discovers that she has magic and she discovers a long-buried plot that threatens to destroy the kingdom she was raised to rule. There is also a nice romance.

Next week I plan to read:

I'm really not sure. I didn't get to many of the ones I said I was going to read last week. I may actually read those. Or I might just see what looks interesting on my many TBR stacks. I also need to check my reviews spreadsheet to see what the next one on that list is.

What are your plans for this week?

  12. Oh, my, Deed So sounds intriguing. I had to laugh about the "historical fiction" part, but I guess that's true, isn't it? Just because I lived through it doesn't make it current!

I don't usually read YA, but I might make an exception here...

    Here's my MONDAY MEMES POST
