Teaser Tuesday: Breaking the Rules by Suzanne Brockmann

This week my teaser is from Breaking the Rules by Suzanne Brockmann. This is the sixteenth book in the Troubleshooters series. It is romantic suspense of a particularly gritty sort. One of the plot threads in this one concerns child prostitution and one of the characters is a sixteen-year-old child prostitute who has managed to escape the brothel where she had spent her last 8 years. This teaser is about when she meets Ben who is another sixteen-year-old who has major problems of his own in the Mall Food Court where she is hanging out eating the leftover food from people's trays.

Teaser:

It didn't make sense, and she didn't trust him. "Then why do you give me money?"
"Because...you look like you need it more than I do. I've seen you here for about a week now, and you're always wearing the same thing." He looked down at his own clothes. "Of course, I'm one to talk. But I'm doing it as a statement. You're not."

I recommend the Troubleshooters series to lovers of romantic suspense.
