Review: Bonds of Justice by Nalini Singh

Bonds of Justice
Author: Nalini Singh
Publication: Berkley (July 6, 2010)

Description: Max Shannon is a good cop, one of the best in New York Enforcement. Born with a natural shield that protects him against Psy mental invasions, he knows he has little chance of advancement within the Psy- dominated power structure. The last case he expects to be assigned to is that of a murderer targeting a Psy Councilor's closest advisors. And the last woman he expects to compel him in the most sensual of ways is a Psy on the verge of catastrophic mental fracture.

My Thoughts: I really like reading the books in this series. I think the Psy/Changeling world is fascinating.

This book focused on the Psy part of the world in the person of a Justice Psy (J-Psy) named Sophia. J-Psys don't have a long life. Entering the thoughts of some of the worst criminals is hard on them. They have problems with their shields. Psys who can't maintain their shields are rehabilitated or mind-wiped. Sophia knows she doesn't have much time before her mind is wiped. She has always felt that she is living on borrowed time. She was abused and tortured by another Psy when she was a child and only her J-Psy talent and connection with the Psy web saved her life then. And only because she was still useful to the Psy. Her parents severed all connections with her because she was "flawed".

Max is a human cop with natural shields and also a tortured childhood. His mother hated him and tried to kill him on a number of occasions. They come together to try to find out who is targeting Nikita Duncan's key advisers. They also fall in love. Besides this case for Councilor Duncan they are also working on a case of a human sociopath who tortured and killed a number of young women. He has been convicted but he hasn't given up the location of the bodies of his victims. And then he escapes from prison and comes after Sophie.

Sophie is also targeted by the Psy because they know her shields are weakening. Max is determined to protect her no matter who or what is threatening her.

I recommend this book to lovers of paranormal romance.
