Friday Memes: Mind Trace by Holly McCaghren

Happy Friday everybody!
Book Beginnings on Friday is now hosted by Rose City Reader. The Friday 56 is hosted at Freda's Voice. Check out the links above for the rules and for the posts of the participants each week. Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

This week I am spotlighting Mind Trace by Holly McCaghren. I am trying to finish up the review copies that have been sitting on my Kindle for a while so that I can start 2014 fresh. The author pitched this one to me and it sounded interesting. Here is the description of this Nov. 16, 2012 release (I have only had it since Nov. 14, 2013 though.):
What would you do to possess unlimited knowledge and power?

Nineteen year-old Alice McArthur never had a choice. A shy girl from a small town, Alice has gained a reputation for her near-genius programming abilities, even getting the attention of EngineerCorp, a rising electronics empire. With her unique skill-set, she is hand-picked to test their network security by hacking into their global mainframe.

But something goes terribly wrong.

The next thing Alice knows, she wakes up on the floor with a migraine, unnatural powers, a server's worth of data in her head and the realization that this job was not what it seemed.

Now a fugitive from justice and on the run from the evil leader of a corporate empire, Alice doesn't know who to trust or where to turn. She must find a way to secure her freedom and stop those who would keep her prisoner for life -- or worse.
Beginning:
"Final stamp on your coffee card—you get your free cup of coffee today!"
Friday 56:
Alice struggled to wake, her mind foggy and incoherent. Her eyelids fluttered and she was aware that it was very bright in the room, as if the sun had risen and was shining unapologetically into her eyes

  1. I saw this one and considered it but my TBR pile is just too big.

  2. I applaud your efforts to try and begin 2014 fresh and get caught up on reading and reviewing. Since we have a similar winter to yours, (maybe a few degrees closer to zero than you, yours being below) winter is the time I snuggle in and get a lot of reading done.
I have read reviews of this book, all seeming positive.
It is nice to read a few sentences and get a feel for the author's style.
