It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (Dec. 2, 2013)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I had a great Thanksgiving break once I got to Duluth. Getting there Wednesday afternoon was something of a challenge though. I drove into a snowstorm 45 miles south of Duluth that lasted all the way to my brother's house. They called it a clipper - roads were slick and the visibility was terrible all the time but especially bad when someone decided to pass. Most people did pass me because I have a tendency to slow down when I can't see the road. Silly me! Once I settled in, I got lots of reading done.

Last Week:

I finished six books last week.
I picked up the ARC of These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner at ALA this past June. It finally got to the top of the stack this week. I loved it. It was a great combination of romance and science fiction. My review will be posted on Dec. 7.

I also read Archangel's Legion by Nalini Singh. It is the latest book in her Guild Hunter series. I like the relationship between to two main characters. My review will be posted on Dec. 7 for this one too.
I am trying to clean up my review stack and grabbed The Great Trouble by Deborah Hopkinson. I enjoyed this middle grade historical fiction section and especially liked the afterward when the author told us which characters were real and what happened to them. My review will be posted on Dec. 12.

I also got a chance to read Dark Witch by Nora Roberts. She is an author who always satisfies me and this book was no exception. She has a great way of showing both friendship and romance. This review will also be posted on Dec. 12.
Mind Trace by Holly McCaghren had also been sitting on the review stack for a while. This was an entertaining science fiction thriller. My review will be posted on Dec. 14.

My only disappointment this week was Fireblood by Trisha Wolfe. It felt like the author was trying to include too many genres and tropes. I couldn't connect with her characters either. My review for this one will also be posted on Dec. 14.

Currently:
I am currently reading Iris by Scott Stabile. The author sent me this one a while ago. It is a YA contemporary science fiction story. I am really enjoying the main character's voice as it is told from her point of view.

Next Week:

Next week will be a mixture of review books and books from my TBR mountain. I have a bit of a gap in the review books on my stack with nothing coming out now until the end of December.
I started listening to Grave Witch by Kalayna Price on my road trip and got to chapter 22. Since my next road trip is late in December, I will be digging the print copy of this one out of TBR mountain to finish.

Taste of Darkness by Maria V. Snyder is one of my late December review book releases. I love this series and can't wait to start it.
Death at Bishop's Keep by Robin Paige was recommended to me. I am eager to see what it is like.

A Study in Ashes by Emma Jane Holloway is the other late December review book on my stack. I read the first two books in this series and can't wait to find out how it ends.
Nil by Lynne Matson is a review book that won't be released until March but the Adobe Digital Editions copy I have will expire early in January. I need to read this in the next couple of weeks.

Blood Bound by Keshia Swaim is another review book that has been on my stack for a while. I want to finish it before the first of the year too.
Then, from my TBR mountain, I have chosen two science fiction books in series and by authors I really like. Treecat Wars by David Weber and Jane Lindskold is set in the Honor Harrington Universe and Bastion by Mercedes Lackey is a Valdemar book.

  10. I will be reading These Broken Stars after I finish The Fiery Heart. I have heard such good things about it and I'm glad to hear that you loved it too.

I liked Touch of Power but I haven't read the sequel yet. I hope that Taste of Darkness will be as good as the first book.
