I am going to start taking part in this meme and plan to use books that I want to read from my TBR mountain for this meme.
Carol K. Carr
I purchased this book on March 8, 2011. I don't know why I haven't read it yet. I like historical mysteries. The day that Bowser kicked it was a bleak winter Sunday like any other in the year of our Lord, eighteen hundred and seventy-six. The fog had set in early that afternoon and a fine mist was falling, muffling the sound of the church bells around the city. The whores were all asleep in their beds upstairs, their customers having departed early to share the comforts of hearth and family, a joint of mutton, and the Book of Common Prayer. Or, if they were young blades, they had trundled off to their soft feather mattresses to sleep off a night of debauchery while I counted their sovereigns.
I am intrigued by your India Black book.
ReplyDeleteI love the atmospheric setting of the opening. Sounds like it will be a good read.
ReplyDeleteI've had this book on my TBR almost as long!! I definitely want to read it - thanks for the reminder! Here's my intro/teaser for this week: http://bit.ly/2iz4PU8
ReplyDeleteQuita a setting!
ReplyDeleteI don't read many historical novels but, the setting caught my interest.
ReplyDeleteWhenever I read excerpts from an historical novel like this one, I vow to read more of them. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteThat's a cracking opening. I hope you enjoy finally reading it, Kathy:) My TT this week is a hefty read - https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/10/24/teaser-tuesday-24th-october-2017/
ReplyDeletePowerful writing. I'm not huge on this genre but do like to escape with it now and then. Great title.
