In My Mailbox (Dec. 20, 2009)

This weekly post is inspired by The Story Siren.

My good intentions to read what I have and not purchase any more books until I had caught up a little went by the wayside again this week. Here are the ones I just had to have.

These books in the Unshelved series add to my collection of Library humor. They are a quick pickup for those times when I wonder why I do what I do. Every page brings a smile and a few bring outright roll on the floor laughter.

I am a big fan of the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives series on the Food Network and a big fan of Guy Fieri. This book has the same flavor and recipes that I would try if only I cooked. However, the book also gives the addresses of the the restaurants featured. Can you say "road trip"?

These are the new print books I got this week. Most are YAs. The only adult paranormal this week is Covet by J. R. Ward. I got the three Percy Jackson's to have my own copies. I have read the first one before and donated it to the HS Media Center. Now I want to read it again and the next couple before I go to see the movie.

I was behind on the Morganville Vampire series and bought these two to catch up. I have only read the first two. The rest are languishing in my TBR pile and will be pulled out as part of a challenge I'm doing this year to read books that have slipped to the bottom of the TBR.

The Seven Rays, Wondrous Strange and Shadow Web have been getting good reviews around the blogosphere and I am curious to try them. Immortals: Love Stories with Bite contains stories by a lot of my favorite YA authors.

Here is what I added to my Kindle this week.

The top row got good buzz on the blogs I read and sounded intriguing. The Kelley Armstrong books are duplicates of harcovers I bought earlier and donated to my HS Media Center. I decided that I wanted to read them again and really like having them available on my Kindle. The last two were free for the Kindle and are the first two in a series. They are thrillers and sounded good.

These ought to keep me busy during the long winter nights. What did you get?

  6. Wow! What a haul! You really scored this week. The upcoming Lightning Thief movie is what spurred me on to read the book for the first time, like you're going to do again. I hope the film is decent. I think Pierce Brosnan's casting was perfect!

Thanks for stopping by my blog as well!
