It's Monday, What Are You Reading? (May 2, 2011)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I had a good reading week and am finally whittling down the number of books I have for review. I would like to have all my review books finished before my summer vacation. I want to use the summer to read the books I have purchased and just piled up.

Here are the books I read last week:
These were from NetGalley for review.

The Magnolia League by Katie Crouch was a YA story about a girl who goes to live with her grandmother in Savanah after her mother is killed. She suddenly becomes part of the in-crowd and learns about the pact some debutantes have made with magic. My review will be posted May 5.

Ascension by Sable Grace is a start to a new urban fantasy series. Our main character is half vampyre and half lyken (werewolf). This was a very entertaining story. My review is here.
Bumped by Megan McCafferty is her young adult debut novel. In this future world teens becoming pregnant is essential. Infertility sets in at about age 18. This reminded me a bit of Clockwork Orange in its desire to come up with new slang. However, it also had a fair amount of humor. My review will be posted on May 2.

Tomorrow Girls: Behind the Gates by Eva Gray is a middle grade dystopia about a group of girls sent to a remote boarding school in order to keep them safe. Or so they are told! My review will be posted on May 4.

Then I wanted to change gears and read some of my own books.
Big Bad Beast by Shelly Laurenston is her latest shifter romance. I love the quirky characters and humor in her stories. My review will be posted May 5.

Ghost Ship by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller is the most recent entry in the Liaden Universe books. I bought the eARC from Baen as soon as it came out because I couldn't wait until August 2 for the hardcover. It was wonderful! My review will be posted May 4.

I am currently reading:
A Civil Campaign by Lois McMaster Bujold. This is a title from somewhere in the middle of the Vorkosigan series. I chose it because I started thinking about love letters. This story has the best one I have ever read in any genre. This is a re-read for me. I have lost count of the number of times I have read this book.

Next week it is back to review books for me:
Troubletwisters by Garth Nix and Sean Williams is a new middle grade fantasy, I got the book from Amazon Vine.

In the Arms of Stone Angels by Jordan Dane was also received from Amazon Vine. A friend recently read this and highly recommended it.

Ruby Red by Kiersten Gear and Anthea Bell is a young adult time-travel story.
When You Dare by Lori Foster in the beginning of a new romantic suspense series. I will be a stop on her blog tour in May.

Mercy by Rebecca Lim is about a fallen angel haunted by her past. This one is on my laptop in Adobe Digital Editions.

No Place Like Holmes by Jason Lethcoe is a middle grade mystery.

That ought to keep me busy. What are your plans for the week?

  9. A Civil Campaign was my least favorite in the series but I know it's very popular with lots of fans. I'm glad you're enjoying it. Last week was all about finishing textbooks and relaxing with manga. Come see what I read.
