Teaser Tuesday: Dead Ice by Laurell K. Hamilton

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Share the title and author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Teaser:
"Something about wanting to capture love in the rings, or something like that," Jean-Claude said, waving a hand vaguely in the air. He looked harmless and almost foppish, the way he'd hidden his power for centuries among the other vampires. He was just handsome and seductive, nothing else to see, move along, move along.
This week my teaser comes from Dead Ice by Laurell K. Hamilton. It is the 24th book in an urban fantasy series I've been following since the beginning. Here is the description from Amazon:
Anita Blake has the highest kill count of any vampire executioner in the country. She’s a U.S. Marshal who can raise zombies with the best of them. But ever since she and master vampire Jean-Claude went public with their engagement, all she is to anyone and everyone is Jean-Claude’s fiancĂ©e.

It’s wreaking havoc with her reputation as a hard ass—to some extent. Luckily, in professional circles, she’s still the go-to expert for zombie issues. And right now, the FBI is having one hell of a zombie issue.

Someone is producing zombie porn. Anita has seen her share of freaky undead fetishes, so this shouldn’t bother her. But the women being victimized aren’t just mindless, rotting corpses. Their souls are trapped behind their eyes, signaling voodoo of the blackest kind.

It’s the sort of case that can leave a mark on a person. And Anita’s own soul may not survive unscathed

  1. Must be a great series if you are still enjoying it 24 books in!

  2. I'm curious about the world this author has created. Although I rarely read books about zombies or vampires, this sounds like a good story.

  4. LOL Interesting description of Jean-Claude, not how he's been described in the past.

  5. Nice! Never did read this author despite her being a local for me. Heard too many mixed things over the years. Hope you're enjoying it!

  6. This author has a good reputation, but I burned out long ago on monster romances.

  7. Hi Kathy,

Along with science fiction, fantasy books are my least favourite genres and are two which I seldom, if ever read, especially as there are so many books in the series!

If you are still enjoying the series after book 24, then you really are an addict and I have to admit that the cover art is pretty good, although when I checked out Laurell's books together and all on one page, there doesn't seem to be much synergy in the cover art overall and you would be hard pushed to recognize them as a series!

It ma not be one for me, but I hope that you enjoy it to the finish and thanks for sharing

  8. I am always curious about this genre, and even though I haven't read any of these books, I am definitely intrigued. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

  9. Can't say I'm not curious, even though I'm more pure SF than fantasy. Horror appeals me though, and if this is the case, I might give it a try.
