It's Monday, What Are You Reading? (July 9, 2012)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I had another good reading week this past week. The hot temperatures have made staying in, reading, and basking in the central air conditioning very attractive.

This is what I finished. First the young adult novels:

I had Unspoken (The Lynburn Legacy) by Sarah Rees Brennan from NetGalley as an Adobe Digital Edition. I hate that they expire after 55 days and decided to read this one so that I wouldn't have to watch for expiration dates. I loved it. I thought the dialogue, characters and plot were all amazing. I can't wait until the book is published on Sept. 11 to buy a copy for my keeper shelf. My review is written and scheduled for Sept. 6.

I had Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry from NetGalley too. This was a wonderful contemporary story that brought me to tears a number of times. I so wanted to take both the main characters home and try to make a better life for them. But for the age difference and the fact that he is fictional, I would have fallen in love with Noah too. My review will be posted on July 28 for this July 31 release.

Taken by Storm by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is from my TBR mountain. It is the third book in the Raised by Wolves series and was wonderful. I fell in love with these characters in book one and I am still in love now. My review will be posted on July 21.

Next are the adult books I read last week.
I had some time to pull a couple of books off TBR mountain this week. The first one I chose was Wolf at the Door by MaryJanice Davidson which was a sort of silly werewolf story with lots of humor and quirky characters. My review will be posted on July 18.

Next I pulled The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater off the stack. This one had all the intensity that I have come to expect from Stiefvater. I thought it was an excellent story filled with wonderful characters. My review will be posted on MMTM on July 19.

Then it was back to review books. Here are the ones I chose this week:

The Last Victim by Karen Robards was an Amazon Vine pick that is the start of a new romantic suspense series. The main character is a psychiatrist who studies serial killers and who has the ability to see and interact with ghosts. The latest ghost she sees is that of the serial killer she was studying. She gets pulled into consulting for this new crime when it looks like the serial killer she escaped 15 years ago has come back and is killing again. My review will be posted on July 28 for this August 7 release.

Blood and Silver by James R. Tuck was sent to me by the author. It is the second full-length story in the Deacon Chalk series. These are very graphic and gritty urban fantasies made unusual by having a male main character. My review will be posted on July 25 for this August 7 release.

The Line Between Here and Gone by Andrea Kane came to me because I am on the blog tour for this book. It was also a romantic suspense title and was very good. My review will be posted on July 26 though the book was released on June 26.

Last, I read Dragon Justice by Laura Anne Gilman which I got from NetGalley. This is the most recent in her Paranormal Scenes Investigation urban fantasy series. It was also excellent. My review will be posted on July 21 for this July 24 release. My keeper copy has also been pre-ordered.

I am currently reading one young adult book in print and one adult review book on my Kindle. (I have to have something to read while the Kindle is charging!)
Storm by Brigid Kemmerer is from my TBR mountain. This is a young adult paranormal story. Big Sky Mountain by Linda Lael Miller is a book I got for a blog tour. My post for this Western romance will be up on August 8.

Next week I will be continuing to read the books I have for review that will be released on August 7. I didn't look at my calendar closely enough when I accepted so many that were being released the same day.
I got Sweet Talk by Julie Garwood from a publicist for Dutton Adult. It sounds like a great romantic suspense title and I can't wait to start it.

Grave of Angels by Michael Prescott is a thriller that I got from Amazon Vine. I was intrigued by the idea of a Carmelite nun turned elite bodyguard for celebrities and had to know that story.
Glitch by Heather Anastasiu is a young adult science fiction/dystopia that I got from Amazon Vine.

The Magician's Apprentice by Kate Banks is a middle grade fantasy that I got from Macmillan Children's Publishing Group.
Innocent Darkness by Suzanne Lazear is a young adult steampunk fantasy with boarding school and faeries added to the mix. I got this one from NetGalley.

Last on the list for August 8 releases is Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Moss. This young adult fantasy has been getting a lot of buzz on the blogs and I can't wait to see what it is like myself.

Those are my (ambitious) plans for the up-coming week. What do you have on your stack?
