First Paragraph/Teaser Tuesday: Somebody's Daughter by David Bell

Every Tuesday Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea posted the first paragraph of a book she is reading or planning to read. In 2018, Vicki from I'd Rather Be at the Beach is taking over this meme.

Here's mine:
Tuesday, 8:16 PM

The doorbell rang shortly after eight o'clock.

The doorbell almost never rang. Certainly not so late in the evening.
Hmm? Eight o'clock doesn't seem very late to me. It does tell me about the narrator's lifestyle though.

Link up here. It is very easy to play along:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers! Everyone loves Teaser Tuesday.
Here's mine:
"Boy, your dad didn't like me, did he?" she said. "Imagine if he knew we were riding around together now. He thought I was such a loudmouth. Which I am."
This week I am reading Somebody's Daughter by David Bell. I got this eARC from Edelweiss. Here is the description from Amazon:
In this pulse-pounding novel of psychological suspense from the USA Today bestselling author of Bring Her Home and Since She Went Away, a man must save the life of a little girl who just might be his daughter....

When Michael Frazier's ex-wife, Erica, unexpectedly shows up on his doorstep, she drops a bombshell that threatens to rip his family apart: Her ten-year-old daughter is missing--and Michael is the father. Unsure whether this is the truth but unwilling to leave the girl's fate to chance, Michael has no choice but to follow the elusive trail of the child he has always wanted but never knew he had.

After Michael departs, his wife, Angela, learns shocking news about Erica and fears for the safety of both her husband and the endangered girl. When a stranger, a man who claims a connection to Erica and her missing daughter, knocks on the door, Angela is drawn out into the night--and deep into the tangled web of Michael's past....

Over the course of one night, lies that span a decade come bubbling to the surface, putting Michael, his wife, and his whole family in jeopardy. And as the window for a little girl's safe return closes, Michael will have to decide who can be trusted and who is hiding the truth....

  1. I don't get many unexpected visitors so it might creep me out to have someone show up night. LOL I've been seeing this one around. Getting curious:)

  8. I never get unexpected guests at that hour so I'd be a bit worried if my doorbell rang at 8 pm.

    The book caught my attention!

  9. 8 pm sounds late for someone to ring my doorbell, but that is because I'm usually already in bed with my book for the night. Definitely gives the book an ominous feel right from the start. See what we are featuring at Girl Who Reads
