It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (Nov. 23, 2020)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup.

Other Than Reading...

This was a nice, quiet week. New restrictions were put into place last Friday closing indoor dining and gyms among some other places. Beauty shops and churches are still open. Schools are open if the district isn't too badly affected. Duluth's school went to all virtual learning for all grades on Friday too. Middle School and High School had already been digital. The most distressing thing to me is the state of the hospitals. They are nearing capacity being around 95% full which is concerning but even more concerning is the percentage of staff that are out with the virus or quarantining because of suspected contact.

I haven't really changed my patterns. I'm still staying at home most of the time with only an infrequent grocery store trip maybe once a week. My brother keeps telling me about staffing at his job. Frequently there are people who don't show up. When he left one evening two-hours before closing, there was only one cashier remaining because four others had called in.

We are planning our usual quiet Thanksgiving. With Target closed Thanksgiving Day, we'll be able to have our Thanksgiving dinner on the actual day. It has been some years since that was true. Bill does work until 10:30 on Wednesday and starts again at 7:15 on Friday. I don't think Black Friday will have the same impact this year as usual. Stores have been having sales all month and I doubt many people are eager to be part of a large crowd waiting until the doors open for special deals.

I hope all of those who are celebrating Thanksgiving this week are going to have a wonderful, safe time.

Read Last Week

If you can't wait until the review shows up on my blog, reviews are posted to LibraryThing and Goodreads as soon as I write them (usually right after I finish reading a book.)
  • Deck the Hounds by David Rosenfelt (Mine) -- Holiday mystery from deep in the Andy Carpenter series was a fun read. My review will be posted on Dec. 26.
  • Written in Red by Anne Bishop (Audiobook) - reread
  • All the Colors of Night by Jayne Ann Krentz (Jan. 5) -- Second in the Fogg Lake series which combines romance, paranormal, and mystery in an entertaining way. My review will be posted on Dec. 29.

  1. It's great that you'll get to spend Thanksgiving together but I wish it was under better circumstances. Schools in the UK are still open, though hospitality, gyms, libraries, sporting events etc are all closed until 2nd December.
    Keep safe and happy reading.

  2. We're trying to stay home as much as possible here too. Same deal with Covid, it's getting very bad here in the hospitals.

    I'm curious about The Vanishing.

  4. That sounds really bad, but best to stay safe. It is hard for me to imagine just how bad it is, especially the hospitals. Scary stuff. I think I need to read the JAK series with book 2 now appearing. I got my copy of Archangel's Sun today so into my line up it goes. I want to listen to Barak Obama's book on audio too. Take care.

  6. Yeah, we have more restrictions here, too. And I want to read Under a Winter Sky as well, so excited for it! And yeah that it seems you enjoyed Archangel's Sun! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!

  7. Seems like there are restrictions everywhere right now. I pray one day we are back to some semblance of normal. So glad you'll be able to spend the holiday together.

Looking forward to your review of Deck the Hounds. Portrait of Peril and A Curious Incident sound like good reads. Hope you enjoy all your books.

Thanks for visiting my blog today. Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving.

  11. Out Thanksgiving was in October - and there was just 3 of us. We did facetime later. Not the same but much safer. We must be feeling the same as I have started a reread of The Others. Just finished the second - love this series. It is comforting too. Have a great week of reading.

  12. We'll be home for Thanksgiving. It will just be the two of us and I'm more than okay with that. I hope you enjoy all those books. They look great. Happy Thanksgiving!

  13. Ooh, I can't believe I forgot there's a new P.J. Tracy book coming out! I've listened to all the Monkeewrench books on audio except one, which I read in print because I couldn't get the audio from the library. I like Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter books on audio, too, but I'm way behind on that series! Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for visiting my blog today!

  16. I wanted to listen to A Promised Land but there was no way I would finish that audiobook on a 3-week library checkout. I should have the e-book soon.

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm glad your brother gets to spend it at home!

  17. I wish our area would take on a few restrictions, at least voluntarily if nothing else. Our hospitals are getting close to capacity too, but many people are still doing unsafe practices. :( I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving and stay safe. We will see some family, but we will be outside the whole time and stay distanced. Looks like you have a good stack of books to keep you company! I added A Promised Land to my hold list at the library and look forward to reading it and/or hearing it, whichever becomes available first. I'll look forward to hearing what you think about the audio book!

  20. We are back under restrictions as well. Things have gotten out of control here in Michigan. I am so glad that your brother is able to enjoy Thanksgiving at home this year. Fingers crossed Black Friday is not crazy.

  21. The hospital capacity are the most concerning areas. I hope you and your brother had a great quiet Thanksgiving. My hubby and I did too.
I don't know how you find time to reread although that Others series would be good entertainment for rereading.
I'm glad you enjoyed another Rosenfelt book. I hope to get to all of them someday.
    Happy Reading!
Enjoy all of your new books!
