Other Than Reading...
This was another quiet week. We are in the middle of a cold snap. The high temperature yesterday was -3F and it was breezy making the windchill in the -20s all day. We have an Extreme Cold Warning until Tuesday noon. With low temperatures in the -20s and windchills hitting -50, I'll be staying indoors and enjoying my books and audiobooks. What is deceptive about the weather is that it is nice and sunny with clear blue skies. It looks a lot more pleasant outdoors than it is.

Last week our new recipe was found on the back of the barley package. We made and enjoyed a Chicken Barley stew and will still be enjoying it for a couple more days as it made quite a potful. I also tried out a new recipe for banana bread which was excellent and is going in the recipe binder. I may finally be able to stop hunting for the perfect banana bread recipe.
I listened to three audiobooks, read three review books, and read one book from my Kindle TBR pile this week. I decided to listen to my favorite Anne Bishop series for the first time in 2025. I tend to listen to these every few months and haven't grown tired of them yet.
Is anyone else doing the Goodreads Challenge for 2025? I should have no difficulty in reaching my goal this year since books I own in my Kindle Library and decide to read are counting twice on the list. This doubling hasn't happened yet for audiobooks or review books. If I remove the second copy from the challenge, both disappear and can't be re-added. Unless I can find the trick of it, the Goodreads Challenge and my spreadsheet aren't going to agree which I find really annoying.
This week I am continuing to read February review copies. I'm especially looking forward to the next in Kelley Armstrong's Haven's Rock series. I'm also hoping to slip in a couple from my own TBR pile.

Not leaving the house in that weather is a smart decision!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the indoor warmth and all those great books!
That is way too cold. Good idea to stay inside. I set my Goodreads Challenge goal at 80 this year. One day, it will get back to what it used to be, but not yet. So many of your books sound amazing this week. I might have to add A Death in Diamonds and Unhallowed Halls to my wish list. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteI'm still waiting for Emily Wilde's Compendium of Lost Tales. I am on the list at my library and should get one of the first copies, but so far, it is still on order. I'll be looking for The Queens of Crime when and if it ever shows up in my library system.
ReplyDeleteHappy reading this week.
I'm doing the Goodreads challenge and I'm hoping to do better than I did last year. That's weird with the glitch you are having. Mine isn't doing that. Mine is being counted correctly. I hope yours works itself out. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Anne Bishop's novels when I read them years ago, I have the fist in that series on my bookshelf but haven't read it, will try and rectify that this year. You've got some great looking books on your reading piles.
ReplyDeleteThat is cold! I hope you are staying warm. I am having the same issue with the Goodreads Challenge, although I've been able to delete the duplicate. I agree with you. It's very annoying. I am wondering if I can turn off that feature so my Kindle and Goodreads aren't syncing. Maybe that would help? I think I'll see if my library has the audio versions of the Others series and I can re-read them that way. I hope you have a great week, Kathy, and happy reading!
ReplyDeleteMy sister has made a barley soup that she found very hearty. It sounds perfect for this extreme cold weather you are having.
ReplyDeleteAnd banana bread is always fantastic---in cold weather or hot.
A great mix of genres, plus a mix of review copies and old favorites! I always liked the old Joy of Cooking banana bread recipe (leaving out the wheat germ, because I never had it on hand when I went to make the recipe) but my husband always tried different recipes or made up his own!
ReplyDeleteA neat mix of books you got there. Hopefully you will enjoy the ones you have yet to read.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
Brrr…. And I thought we were cold with a high of 22F! Looks like a wonderful variety of books.
ReplyDeleteAs it's Wednesday now, I hope your weather is warming up. We have abundant sunshine as well, but with very cold temps (though not as cold as yours). I've had that happen before where the tracking methods don't agree. It is frustrating. I'm doing the Goodreads and StoryGraph challenges, which I've set at 52 books. The past two years, I've exceeded that number, but I'm keeping it the same anyway so I don't feel too overwhelmed. I read My Phony Valentine and really enjoyed it. Have a great week! :)
