Freezing, without moving any other body part, he opened his eyes and met her gaze.

 She frowned at him. He didn’t look super-startled, and he said nothing. He just stared at her.

 With his hand still under there.

 “Yeah…” Semi-satisfied with his frozen reaction, she nodded at his lap. “You weren’t going for a little tug, were you? Because as your spectator, I’d just as soon not see it.”

 He brought his hand out and put it back behind his head, still silent, still watching her. Almost…relaxed. 

His gaze was so dark, so compelling, she felt like squirming, damn it. “I mean, I guess I could wait in the other room if it’s really necessary. That is, if you don’t take too long.”

Blog Hopping on a Friday

I haven't been very good at taking part in the Friday hops. Friday is a really busy day for me. But today's question did make me want to participate.

If you are a fan of Science Fiction what is your favorite book? If you haven't read Science Fiction before...any inkling to? Anything catch your eye?

I grew up on science fiction. I loved Robert A. Heinlein and Isaac Asimov. I couldn't miss a book by Gordon Dickson. Now, though my reading range has expanded, I still enjoy a lot of character driven science fiction.


My current favorite authors are Lois McMaster Bujold (especially when she writes about Miles Vorkosigan) and Sharon Lee and Steve Miller (who write the Liaden books). 


My favorite book by Bujold is Shards of Honor (now most easily found in the omnibus version called Cordelia's Honor) and my favorite book by Lee and Miller is Mouse and Dragon. But I really don't think you can go wrong reading any of their books.


I'm feeling the need for a re-read. How about you?

"Since Thanksgiving is coming up next week, let's use this week's Hop to share what we are most thankful for and what our holiday traditions are!"


My answer is that I am thankful for the life I'm living. I have a job I enjoy and a lifestyle I treasure. I am thankful for good friends both inside the blogging community and in "real life."


For this holiday, I will be traveling to the house where I was raised in order to spend time with my brother. We have a very small family. It will be just the two of us for this holiday. But we will still be preparing the traditional Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce. I think it is my job to supply the dessert. My brother is a big fan of Bakers Square's French Silk Pie. I'll be bringing one North with me.


I'll also be bringing my Kindle and a few print books to read over my brief vacation. I will be avoiding the stores this holiday weekend. Black Friday will have to get along without my financial contribution. I am much more likely to visit a casino than a retail store on Black Friday.

"What are your feelings on losing followers? Have you ever stopped following a blog?"


I am always disappointed when I lose followers. But I can understand. I know that I will go through my Google Reader occasionally and stop following blogs that haven't posted in a substantial amount of time. I will also stop following blogs that consistently review the kinds of books that I don't read or blogs that only review products.

Even with occasional weeding of the list, I still follow 607 blogs and add at least a few new ones every week. I try to comment when someone says something that strikes a chord with me. I can't possibly comment on everyone's blog or I wouldn't have time to read anything else. That would leave my own blog bare and neglected.

It's Time to Hop!

What's your favorite beverage while reading or blogging, if any? Is it tea, coffee, water, a glass of wine, or something else?


My favorite beverage at all times is Diet Pepsi. I almost always have a can by my side at home, at work, wherever I happen to be. I have backed off on my caffeine intake though. If I'm home or at work, I only have one can a day with caffeine and the rest of the day I'm caffeine-free. However, if I'm away from home, I drink the "hard stuff" all day long. (Thank heaven for Culver's -- they have caffeine-free Diet Pepsi as one of their fountain drinks.) 


You can bet that I'll have a can by my side while I'm hopping around the blogs today.

Blog Hop and Follow Friday

It is Friday. That means it is time to hop around the blogosphere and check out some new blogs. Jenn at Crazy-for-Books has the older one. You can check it out and add your blog to the Linky. She will have a question for you to answer so that we bloggers can find out more about each other.

Parajunkee has started another similar hop. She asks that if someone follows you as a result of visiting from the links, that you follow them back.

I am Kathy and I began my blog as an assignment in January of 2008. I took part in a program called 23 Things on a Stick (named because it seems like every kind of food imaginable is served on a stick at the Minnesota State Fair) which was coordinated by the regional library organizations in Minnesota and include public and school library staff. Our goal was to learn about Web 2.0 tools so that we could better serve our patrons. The first Thing was to start a blog so that you could report on the Things as you tried them. After the project was completed, the blog languished almost unused until the Fall of 2009 when I decided to focus on book blogging. Since then I have done much better.

Some other great things that are now a regular part of my life that I hadn't tried before the 23 Things project include LibraryThing, Goodreads, Delicious, and iGoogle and Google Reader. The 23 Things project changed the way I used a computer forever.

On this blog I review mainly adult books that interest me. I read a lot of genre fiction including paranormal/urban fantasy, mysteries and thrillers, science fiction and fantasy, and romance. I will also sometimes include reviews of YA books that I read in those categories. My main blog for YA and Middle Grade books is Ms. Martin Teaches Media. Where the YA book reviews go often depends on which blog needs a new post.
