It's Monday, What Are You Reading? (Dec. 13, 2010)

It's Monday, What are you reading is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey
It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

Lots of snow means lots of reading time for me this weekend. My planned trip to the Mall of America on Saturday to attend an author signing with Richelle Mead was cancelled by the nasty weather. Luckily, my friend and I did not attempt the trip. Richelle's flights to Minneapolis were cancelled too. She skipped us and went right on to Detroit.
I finished reading Side Jobs: Stories from the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. I enjoyed having the chance to read all of the short stories that fill in the blanks between the novels. My review will be posted on Dec. 16.

I also read Unearthly by Cynthia Hand. This book will be published on Jan. 4, 2011 and is a 2011 Young Adult Author Debut novel. I got the eARC from NetGalley for this one. It was a very enjoyable young adult story about a girl who is part angel and has to decide if she will follow her heart or her destiny. I can see my YA readers loving this one and begging for a sequel. My review will be posted on Ms. Martin Teaches Media on Dec. 18.

Then my plans for the week were tossed out the window because I received two books for review that had pretty short timelines.
Judgment Day by Wanda L. Dyson was a fascinating thriller that I got from the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program. I enjoyed following the twists and turns in this novel. My review will be posted on Dec. 18.

Fall for Anything by Courtney Summers is a young adult contemporary title about a seventeen-year-old girl named Eddie who is trying to deal with the suicide of her father. It was an emotionally wrenching story that will stay in my memory for a long time. The book will be published on Dec. 21 and my review is scheduled for that day on Ms. Martin Teaches Media.
Nocturne: a Novel by Syrie James was an unexpected arrival in my mailbox. I received this romance from the publisher for review. It also arrived at the perfect time because it is the romance between a young woman whose car runs off the road in a blizzard and the mysterious man who rescues her. Michael Tyler is a vampire who has become used to the isolation of his home and is reluctant to let a human in. This one will be published on January 4, 2011.

Then, since I was caught up on the books I have received for review, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and read Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead. This a a much anticipated book in the young adult book blog blogosphere. It is the final volume in the Vampire Academy series. I am just beginning chapter 12 and am really enjoying the story.

Next week is completely undecided at this time. I am not expecting any books from Amazon this week. I am caught up on my reviews. My next book for review isn't published until Jan. 11, 2011. Here are my YA choices:
And here are my choices for adult books:

Of course, if I can't find anything that suits me in this bunch, I can look at the 800+ other books on my TBR stacks.

What was your week like? Do you have anything particularly exciting coming up?

  9. Hi, hon - new follower on the Monday blog hop!

Very interesting array of choices. I'm a little embarassed that Jim Butcher has been on my to-read list for so long without rising to the top, but maybe 2011 will be his year. :)

Nocturne sounds quite lovely . . . an interesting twist on the usual vampire romance.
