Review: Water Bound by Christine Feehan

Water Bound
Author: Christine Feehan
Publication: Jove (July 27, 2010)

Description: Off the shores of Sea Haven, a beautiful diver rescues a man from drowning, a man with no memory of who he is-or why he seems to possess the violent instincts of a trained killer. But soon, he and his savior will be engulfed in a storm of dizzying passion and inescapable danger...

My Thoughts: This was an excellent paranormal romance between two very unusual characters. This is the first romance I have read when the heroine was high-functioning autistic. I think the author did a great job at illustrating her illness and her coping mechanisms. Rikki also has a relationship with water. Lev calls her a water elemental. Rikki had great courage.

Lev is also has a variety of psychic gifts. Also, he was raised and trained by the Russian government to be an agent. He is a chameleon and sometimes an assassin. He has learned to depersonalize everyone and to be alone.

When Rikki saves him from drowning he connects with her and is determined to start his life over again and be with her forever. However, they have a couple of problems to solve first. Someone has targeted Rikki and is determined to kill her by fire. She has been targeted by this arsonist since she was 13 years old and has almost been convinced that she is unknowingly starting the fires that killed her parents and her fiancé and burnt down the homes of two of her foster families. Lev is also in danger from a cleaner (someone who cleans up dangerous people) because the agency Lev worked for does not have a retirement plan. The only way out is to die or convince the agency that you did die.

Working together to get rid of both threats and to learn to forge a life together is the heart of this story. It was emotionally intense and very much the kind of book that you want to read at one sitting.

I recommend it to lovers of paranormal romance.

Favorite Quote:
She'd come to bed so afraid of giving him too much of herself, yet here he was, feeling exactly the same. And maybe that was love. Being so vulnerable and allowing someone else in so far they could hurt you, but they could also give you everything.

  2. I loved this book and was waiting on someone else to finish it! I loved that she made Rikki strong, independent in spite of her autism. I really love when Christine does that--takes what some might consider "flaws" and turns it into one of the strengths that makes them who they are :)
