It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.
I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup.

Other Than Reading...
Happy holidays from snowy Duluth! I had a nice week even though snow kept me inside. We got about 4 inches in each of two different snow events. We are also looking forward to a three-day snow event starting Tuesday morning which is hinting at anywhere from 6 - 12 inches of snow and a brisk wind too. My brother is concerned because he is scheduled to work from 3:30 until midnight on Wednesday which might be right in the middle of the storm.
I'm busy reading and listening and have begun my 2023 review books. I also finally finished the last Added in 2008 book. I'm not sure if I want to begin tackling the many, many (167) unread books I added in 2009 or just choose what interests me from my "To Read" collection of 2476 books. I should at least look at the 2009 additions to decide if I want to read or donate them.
I'm loving my new Kindle Paperwhite. I was charging my old Kindle almost every day and even often reading while it was charging. This new one has only needed charging once this week. I know it says the charge should last 6 weeks - if you read 20 minutes a day, but I am not that reader.
I also spent some time this week setting up my January calendar and preparing the posts. I do still have some gaps that I plan to fill in with impulse reads/listens. I have also left space for some new arrivals since I've pre-ordered two books that will arrive this week.

- Nine Liars by Maureen Johnson (Review; December 27) -- This YA mystery has Stevie Bell and her friends figure out what happened when two people were murdered with an ax at a house party in 1995 and finding out that the killer is still willing to murder more to protect their secrets. My review will be posted on December 20.
- The Secret of the Lost Pearls by Darcie Wilde (Review; December 27) -- This historical mystery was an entertaining story. My review will be posted on December 21.

- The Gift by Nora Roberts (Mine since 2008) -- This collection had two novellas with a Christmas theme and one short novel that takes place during a Spring Colorado blizzard. All were enjoyable. My review will be posted on December 24.
- Sleep No More by Jayne Ann Krentz (Review; January 3) -- This one starts a new romantic suspense with lots of the paranormal trilogy. I enjoyed the characters. My review will be posted on December 27.
- Picture in the Sand by Peter Blauner (Review; January 3) -- This contemporary story tells about Ali Hassan's life in Egypt in the 1950s amid all the turmoil as a vehicle to convince his grandson that running off to join the holy war is a bad idea. Wonderfully moving and descriptive. My review will be posted December 27.

We haven't gotten snow here yet. I think awhile back we had some spitzy flurries but nothing else. I don't mind snow as long as I don't have to go anywhere in it! Lol.
ReplyDeleteNice lineup of reads! Seeing quite a few in my TBR pile that I need to start series wise! Lol. Hope you enjoy your lineup for this week!
Here's my Monday Wrap-up
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
It is a white day here as well. I am slow in getting in everything together for the holidays, but the youngest is on her way home from school, so all is well.
ReplyDeleteI keep a list of all unread books, but the only ones I separate by year are the Kindle freebies I grab.
Lots of great books on your list this week. Hope you enjoy your reading week. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog this week.
Oh wow you've got snow incoming! I hope it doesn't hit too bad. The Villa, Kaiju... some fun looking books.
ReplyDeleteI hope the snow won't be too bad. That's great that you have your January calendar. I'm still working on it. I'm glad to hear you are loving your new Kindle. I hope you enjoy your books and have a great week!
ReplyDeleteUrgh, snow. We haven't gotten any new snow for a week, but what we have is sticking, which sucks. But yeah for 2008 books being finished, and that the new kindle is working out! Sounds like a great week! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are loving your new Paperwhite! About how long did your old one last before it started requiring constant charging? I love your comment about the charge lasting 6 weeks if you are a 20 minute a day reader. That is so true! LOL
ReplyDeleteI feel cold right now, but I know it doesn't compare to your cold. It's wet and rainy here--which I love. I hope the mountains are getting lots of snow. They always look so pretty on the horizon.
I hope you have a great week and enjoy your reading!
Good news about your new Kindle. I always have to charge my Oasis once a day when I read a lot, but I don't mind that. I do have a Paperwhite, too, but don't read on it very often.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week.
I like the sound of Back to the Garden, although I never finished the Mary Russell books (on audio). Congratulations on clearing out 2008! I cleared out two bookcases and weeded out 3/4 of the books for donation or discard. Many probably in my possession from even before 2008. It's hard to give up on ever reading or re-reading them, but sometimes unread books just weigh you down or just don't appeal anymore. Plus, I can always buy them again if I decide I want them after all! ;)
ReplyDeleteWe are still waiting for snow here. :( I don't think we are going to have any for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThe new Maureen Johnson is on my list!
A new Paperwhite must be nice to have and not have to recharge so often. How long would you read each day. Must be quite a bit as you do get through a lot of books.
