Review: Midnight Crystal by Jayne Castle

Midnight Crystal
Author: Jayne Castle
Publication: Jove (August 31, 2010)

Description: It began with Krentz...continued with Quick...and now it will end with Castle.

Book Three of the Dreamlight trilogy.

For many earthly centuries, a legendary curse has plagued the Winters family, stemming from the tumultuous founding of the Arcane Society. But now, on the futuristic world of Harmony, the curse's final mystery will be unraveled...

Head of the ghost hunters guild Adam Winters and dreamlight reader extraordinaire Marlowe Jones must break the curse, save Harmony's entire underworld-and fight a passion that could destroy them both.

My Thoughts: This was a fun conclusion to the Burning Lamp trilogy. This one takes place on the planet of Harmony. It was colonized by people from Earth through the Curtain but the Curtain closed. They discovered that their Earth technology quickly became useless and that there were alien ruins on the planet but no aliens. The people began to develop some psychic powers and those who were descendants of members of the Arcane Society developed more. Marlowe Jones is a descendant of the Jones family and is now in charge of J&J which is an agency of private investigators. Adam Winters is a descendant of the Winters family - arch rivals and enemies of the Jones family. Adam is the new head of the Ghost Hunters Guild. Adam is afraid that he is a victim of the Winters curse and is going to go insane. He needs a dreamlight reader and the Burning Lamp to save his sanity. Marlowe is the reader and can help him locate the Burning Lamp which has recently been stolen. But Adam has other problems too. Rivals in the Guild are trying to kill him to take over his position. This was a fun romance enhanced greatly by the character of Gibson - a dustbunny.

I love the trailer:

Since this is the concluding book in the trilogy, I would recommend reading Book One which is Fired Up by Jayne Ann Krentz and Book Two which is Burning Lamp by Amanda Quick. Book One is in her contemporary line. Book Two is in her historical line. That way you will have the complete story and get a sampling of the variety of writing that Jayne Ann Krentz does.
