It's Monday, What Are You Reading? (July 11, 2011)

t's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I had another good reading week. I managed to remove some from my "review" pile but than I went and added more to that pile too.

Last week I read:
Break Out by Nina Croft was for review from Entangled Publishing via NetGalley. This was a combination of science fiction, erotic fiction and paranormal fiction. It takes place in the future when a vampire is a space ship owner. This one reminded me a bit of Firefly and of Star Trek. My review will be posted on July 23.

Spell Bound by Kelley Armstrong is the penultimate in her Women of the Otherworld series. I received this one from the publisher. Lots of the characters from earlier books make appearances in this one as they are gearing up for a war among the supernaturals. My review will be posted on July 14.

The Undertaker by William F. Brown was sent to me for review by the author. This was a tense and action-packed political thriller that included as a main character a depressed, ordinary man who gets in over his head with the Mob, crooked politicians, and corrupt FBI agents. My review will be posted on July 28.

Dragon's Pupils - The Sword Guest by Martin Chu Shi was sent to me by the author for review. This is a young adult adventure story that draws its inspiration from Chinese mythology. It was exciting but a little lacking in character development. My review will be posted on July 23.

Merciless by Diana Palmer is a review book that I got from Harlequin via NetGalley. It is typical Palmer and is romantic suspense. My review will be posted on July 16.

Always a Witch by Carolyn MacCullough is the sequel to Once a Witch. It is a young adult book and is the story of a young woman who has to travel back in time to save her family. This was good but would have been better if the details of Once a Witch had been fresher in my memory. My review will be posted on July 21.

I also read a couple from my overflowing baskets of books I own.
I downloaded to my Kindle and re-read the first book in the Honor Harrington science fiction series. On Basilisk Station by David Weber is space opera. It introduces a female Horation Hornblower and her treecat Nimitz. It is filled with interesting characters, fascinating spaceships, and complex politics. My review will be posted on July 27.

Never Cry Wolf by Cynthia Eden is urban fantasy and features a werewolf main character. This was a fun romance. My review will be posted on July 25.

Heartless by Gail Carriger is the latest in her Parasol Protectorate and features Alexia, Lady Maccon and a variety of interesting characters including werewolves, vampires, and steampunk inventors. It is filled with Victorian detail and lots of humor. My review will be posted on July 21.

I am Currently Reading:

The Vampire Stalker by Alison Van Diepen which is a young adult book about a girl who has a major crush on a boy from a novel and then he comes to life.
What if the characters in a vampire novel left their world--and came into yours?

Amy is in love with someone who doesn't exist: Alexander Banks, the dashing hero in a popular series of vampire novels. Then one night, Amy meets a boy who bears an eerie resemblance to Alexander. In fact, he IS Alexander, who has escaped from the pages of the book and is in hot pursuit of a wicked vampire named Vigo. Together, Amy and Alexander set out to track Vigo and learn how and why Alexander crossed over. But when she and Alexander begin to fall for each other, Amy wonders if she even wants him to ever return to the realm of fiction.
Next week:

I have company coming to visit for a True Blood Marathon as we watch season three of that series. We also plan a couple of casino visits. I don't know how much reading time I will actually have.  But these are the next books up on the stack:
Kitty's Big Trouble by Carrie Vaughn has been on my TBR stack for over a week now and I want to read it soon.

Luck of the Devil by Patricia Eimer is from Entangled Publishing via NetGalley and I need to have it read by the first week in August. This one is about a young girl who is the daughter of the devil and is rebelling by being good.

Ward Against Death by Melanie Card is also from Entangled Publishing via NetGalley. This one is about a young man in a fantasy world who is a necromancer who raises the wrong person from the dead.

I am also expecting my copy of Forever by Maggie Stiefvater to arrive this week. That one goes straight to the top of my TBR stack when it arrives.

What did you read last week? What are your plans for the coming week?
