I am a fan of the Sherlock Holmes-Mary Russell series am excited to get to Pirate King which is the newest in the series. It has been sitting on my TBR mountain since last September. I like the characters and I like the historical setting for these mysteries. Here is the description:

I did not need to turn around to know what he was seeing, although I did. There is an undeniable fascination with oncoming catastrophes, a basic human inability to tear one's eyes away from runaway lorries, banana peels on crowded pavements, and overbalancing waiters with over-laden trays.
