It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (July 7, 2014)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

It's Saturday morning. I decided to write this week's summary early this week. I'll be traveling and attending a workshop in Michigan on Monday and Tuesday. It is only 668 miles if I go directly - a mere 10 hour drive. However, I am picking up a friend and were going together. That makes it a 12 hour drive which I am spreading out over 3 days. I am hoping to only take two days for the return trip. I'm excited to attend nErDcampMI and have a chance to network with so many people who are also interested in reading, writing, and using technology. My friend and I will have lots of time to catch up and listen to some audiobooks too. She's in charge of picking them.

Sunday morning update: My drive to my friend's was lovely. We chatted, went out to eat, visited the casino, and visited her parents. I didn't have any reading time. We plan to listen to Torn from Troy, The Reluctant Assassin, and Confessions of a Murder Suspect on our drive. Should be a nice variety.
Read Last Week

For All Time by Jude Deveraux is the second book in the Nantucket Brides series. I got this book for review from Amazon Vine. I enjoyed this romance and loved both the characters and the setting. My review will be posted on July 16.

Hammered by Kevin Hearne is the third book in the Iron Druid Chronicles. I am enjoying getting to know more about the main character with each book I read. I also like learning about the various world mythologies that the author uses for plots and villains. My review will be posted on July 30.

Steel by Carrie Vaughn has been on my YA TBR mountain since March 15, 2011. I read her adult urban fantasy and thought I would like to try her YA. This one is a time travel book with pirates and sword fighting and was okay. My review will be posted on July 30.

Collared by L. A. Kornetsky is a mystery by an author I know better as Laura Anne Gilman. I am familiar with her urban fantasy novels. I added her mystery to my stack on Jan. 3, 2013. It was entertaining as much for the banter between the two main characters as for the banter between the pets of the two main characters. Kornetsky really gets into the minds of dogs and cats. My review will be posted on August 2.
Iron Hearted Violet by Kelly Barnhill was a middle grade fantasy told as a fairy tale. It's been on my TBR mountain since Jan. 3, 2013. I loved the wonderful language and the fascinating world building in this story about a girl, a boy, a dragon, and an ancient god imprisoned in their world who is now trying to escape. My review will be posted on Aug. 7.

Pray for Silence by Linda Castillo is a murder mystery that has been on my TBR stack since Oct. 5, 2010. It was emotionally intense and gritty and was a compelling story to read. My review will be posted on Aug. 7.
On Thursday and Friday I read two excellent books that are both second books in a series.

Untold by Sarah Rees Brennan is a young adult paranormal that continues the Lynburn Legacy series. Visions by Kelley Armstrong is the second book in the Cainsville series. Both leave me very eager for more in each series. The third in the Lynburn Legacy will be released on Sept. 23. Since Visions won't be released until this August, I face a really long wait for the next book in that series.
Currently
The only print book I'm taking on my trip is Melting the Ice by Jaci Burton. I pulled this one off my TBR mountain and started reading it last night. I really enjoy this series because of the sports connection and because of the steamy romances.
Next Week

I am optimistically hoping to read this books which are living on my Kindle. These are all books from my review stack. Most aren't being released until late in August.
Guilt by Association by Marcia Clark was actually released in 2012. NetGalley offered the whole series for review since the most recent is being released on July 8. I decided to read the first in the series.

Memory Zero by Keri Arthur is an urban fantasy being re-released by a new publisher. I am almost certain I read the original edition of this years ago.

No Limits by Lori Foster begins a new romantic suspense series. However, the main character was featured in the previous series. I am glad to read his story and be part of the blog tour in September.
Feral by Holly Schindler and Wood Sprites by Wen Spencer are from my YA review stack. I got them both from Edelweiss for review.
