Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Books and a Beat. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Teaser:
I was tempted to dry him off atop the bathroom vanity, but conjuring images of his taking a flying-leap onto the ceramic tile floor—or flirting with the potential for electrocution from the wet sink nearby—I decided instead to set off for my office. This week my teaser comes from The Thing Is by Kathleen Gerard. I was sent a copy of this Kindle book by the author in exchange for an honest review. Here is the description from Amazon:
Ever since the death of her fiancé, Meredith Mancuso has shrunk from the world. Even with her successful writing career, she's not motivated to work. When her sister, Monica, begs for a favor, Meredith wants nothing more than to say no. But she's ultimately roped into pet-sitting an orphaned Yorkshire terrier named Prozac.
Blessed with spiritual wisdom and a high IQ, Prozac is an active pet therapy dog. To heal broken-hearted Meredith, he rallies his fan club at Evergreen Gardens, an independent living facility, where he visits each week.
Prozac and the community of resilient older folks challenged by losses of their own propel Meredith, often against her will, back into the land of the living. Meredith learns that most people carry some sort of burden, but it's still possible to find meaning, purpose, and joy--and sometimes, even love--along the way.
This sounds like such a cute read. :)
ReplyDeleteHere's my teaser.
The healing powers of pets have been studied and found to be a wonderful way to deal with loss, or to provide comfort for the elderly. This one sounds good. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

This sounds like such a great book. Animals do have the gift of helping people heal.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! That's my dog, Lotto, on the front cover! I'll have to buy the book just for that. haha Seriously, this looks like a fun book with some serious messages. I really think I would like this one.

ReplyDeleteMy TT from The Fireman
How can you pass up that cover?
ReplyDeleteI doubt anyone could resist that face.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such a heartwarming book, and the dog is absolutely adorable!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteEven as a non pet owner, I did have to smile at your chosen teaser lines, when I cast my mind back to all the stories my friends with pets, share with me.
There seems little doubt left about the companionship and yes, even healing value, of an animal. So even though this is not a book I would choose to read for myself, given the right circumstances, it is definitely one I might purchase as a gift, for the right person!
Thanks for sharing :)
