Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Books and a Beat. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
Teaser:
Cleric Tuck licks his lips, which sport several cracks. "They'll sell us."This week my teaser comes from Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet by Charlie N. Holmberg. I got this eARC from NetGalley. Here is the description from Amazon:
Maire is a baker with an extraordinary gift: she can infuse her treats with emotions and abilities, which are then passed on to those who eat them. She doesn’t know why she can do this and remembers nothing of who she is or where she came from.
When marauders raid her town, Maire is captured and sold to the eccentric Allemas, who enslaves her and demands that she produce sinister confections, including a witch’s gingerbread cottage, a living cookie boy, and size-altering cakes.
During her captivity, Maire is visited by Fyel, a ghostly being who is reluctant to reveal his connection to her. The more often they meet, the more her memories return, and she begins to piece together who and what she really is—as well as past mistakes that yield cosmic consequences.
From the author of The Paper Magician series comes a haunting and otherworldly tale of folly and consequence, forgiveness and redemption.
Fascinating! Thanks for sharing, and I'm curious about what happens next. Here's mine: “BEACH BLUES”
ReplyDeleteThere's a HUGE coincidence:). I really enjoyed this one - I'll be fascinated to hear your views on it, as you seem to have felt a lot less enthusiastic about it. Thank you for sharing and visiting my site.
ReplyDeleteThat teaser gives me goosebumps! Sounds like Tuck is another captive of Allemas. Great teaser!

I'd forgotten that I had added this to my wish list. I've heard great things about this book, and I'm really curious with that second line, "They'll sell us." Three words with so much power.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a fun and unique book. I must remember to do this hop next week.
ReplyDeleteThis is the second time I've seen this book in a TT! I'll definitely have to look for it! :D
ReplyDeleteI've heard mixed reviews about this book, but it does sound good. And I love the cover!
