It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (Dec. 3, 2018)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup. YA and middle grade reviews will still be posted on  Ms. Martin Teaches Media - my other blog.

Other Than Reading...

Welcome to snowy Minnesota! Light fluffy flakes are falling as I write this on Saturday afternoon and my brother just finished snowblowing to clear out Wednesday's snow which only amounted to an inch or two. He was hoping the sun would come out and melt it away from our south-facing driveway. Unfortunately despite the temperatures hovering around 30 degrees, there was no sunshine to be found.

I've been deep in a re-reading binge and have been finding it hard to convince myself to get up off the couch and go exercise. I've missed a couple of days in a row now and will have to be resolute about going back on Monday.

I've finished my State of the Stack post which takes a look at my review books. I have also compiled the stats for my November reading. I read 26 books last month with a total of 9141 pages. 21 of them were my books with 8 being re-reads. 23 of them were book on my Kindle. I read five review books early in the month.

I spent some time thinking about my blogs. I think I'm going to phase out Ms. Martin Teaches Media now that I have been retired for more than a year. I do still have 21 YAs on my review stack but I don't think I'm going to be looking for more to review. I'll still probably keep up with my favorite YA authors and, in fact, have a few of their upcoming books on my review stack. Right now I only have one scheduled post on that blog. I find that I'm less interested in reading YA books these days.

Read Last Week

If you can't wait until the review shows up on my blog, reviews are posted to LibraryThing and Goodreads as soon as I write them (usually right after I finish reading a book.)

This week I was doing some re-reading. I have previously reviewed all of these both on my blog and on LibraryThing and Goodreads. Despite the space ships on the covers, these are fascinating stories about people - members of an extended family - who live in a complex and intriguing world.
Mouse and Dragon by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller
Fledgling by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller
Saltation by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller
Ghost Ship by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller
Dragon Ship by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller
Necessity's Child by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller
Dragon in Exile by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller
The Disasters by M. K. England - I read about 35% of this one and then set it aside to read some of the Liaden books. I decided that I didn't care about the characters or story enough to keep on reading.

Currently
Alliance of Equals by Sharon Lee is the 19th book in the Liaden Universe.

Next Week

More re-reading in the Liaden Universe
The Gathering Edge by Sharon Lee & Steve Miller is the 20th book in the Liaden Universe
Neogenesis by Sharon Lee & Steve Miller is the 21st book in the Liaden Universe

After I finish my Liaden Universe re-read, these are some possibilities from my TBR piles.
 Wildcard by Marie Lu
The Bronze Key by Holly Black & Cassandra Clare
Ghost Talkers by Mary Robinette Kowal
Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse

Reviews Posted

On Inside of a Dog:
Shades of Wicked by Jeanine Frost
Murder on Black Swan Lane by Andrea Penrose

On Ms. Martin Teaches Media:
Fire & Heist by Sarah Beth Durst
Guardian by A. J. Hartley

Want to See What I Added to My Stack Last Week?

These were both Kindle deals. I've heard great things about Dread Nation but Savage Liberty is totally new to me. Savage Liberty is the 5th in a series of historical mysteries. I'm hoping that it works well as a stand-alone.
Dread Nation by Justina Ireland
Savage Liberty by Eliot Pattison

What was your week like?

  1. Thanks for stopping by Colletta's Kitchen Sink! I find that I'm not big on YA as I get older. Sometimes, I just can't connect with the characters if they are so very young. I guess it is just my stage in life because I can remember when I loved YA.

I'm lucky to read 1 book a week let alone 26 books in 1 month! Go YOU!

    Have a great reading week!

  3. I'd have fun browsing through your bookcase of YA's.
I liked the start of Time’s Convert but at the same time, I feel like the first three books were a saga unto itself. I don’t know if I’m really interested in reading about Marcus’s story. Oh well, no rush.

  5. I think you can safely phase out the other blog and just incorporate any YA books here.

  9. I don't read as much YA anymore either since the girls in my book club are now college age and on to reading other things. Hope you got motivated to exercise today. I had to push myself out the door too.

  10. It’s been snowing here, too, but most of it melts during the day, so I haven’t had to shovel too much. Wow, you read 26 books last month?! I barely finished 7. I feel like a slacker. Have a great week!

Aj @ Read All The Things!

  11. Not much snow here, but a fair amount of rain. It's getting colder, so the white stuff will make its way here eventually.

Sometimes your blogging plans change. In the 11 years I've been blogging I've abandoned some blogs, started new ones, temporarily stopped some blogs, and limped along blogging when my schedule is too crazy to sleep.

You accomplished a ton in November. Re-reading can be so much fun.

Hope you have a fabulous week.

  12. I used to have two blogs and finally phased one out a couple of years ago, as it was primarily about working in the public library, and I haven't done that since 2013. I have enjoyed the freedom that comes with not trying to read and review every new YA and middle grade book that comes out. Sticking to a few favorite authors has worked well for me - I hope it will for you too!

  15. I picked up Dread Nation a few weeks ago as Daily Deal at Audible. I may have to take a look at the Sharon Lee series although it's awfully far along. It's been years since I've done a re-read.
Hope you have a good week and maybe see some sun. :-)
