Description: Forty-something Defiance Dayne only recently discovered she comes from a long line of powerful witches. Added to that was the teensy, infinitesimal fact that she is what's called a charmling. One of three on the entire planet. And there are other witches who will stop at nothing to steal her immense power, which would basically involve her unfortunate and untimely death.

No one told her life after 40 would mean having to learn new life skills - such as how to survive a witch hunter dead set on killing her - or that the sexiest man alive would be living in her basement

Whoever said life begins at 40 was clearly a master of the underappreciated and oft maligned understatement.

My Thoughts: Defiance Dayne has just awakened from a six-month coma and is trying to come to terms with her new paranormal talents. She is a charmling -one of only three on the planet. Other witches, especially those who practice dark magic, want to steal her power. So she has decided to say that she lost her powers.

None of her friends and family believe her though. Neither do the people who are constantly knocking on her door looking for help. Neither does a revenant witch catcher from the days of the Salem Witch Trials.

Defiance also has to deal with a current villain who really wants her to raise the dead for him and is willing to go to extreme measures to convince her to do that.

This story is filled with quirky characters. Defiance, especially, is a unique person. She's the viewpoint character and has a unique way of seeing the world.

This is the middle book in a trilogy but stands alone quite well.

I needed sustenance. And sugar. Mostly sugar. And I deserved it, damn it. I was living in some bizarre interdimensional hellhole, no offense to Percy. And cake would help. Cake always helped.
I bought this one. You can buy your copy here.
