It's Monday, What Are You Reading? (Oct. 11, 2010)

It's Monday, What are you reading is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

Well, last week I mentioned that I wasn't feeling well, so a visit to the doctor told me that I had bronchitis. So I have been taking pills all week. I am finally starting to feel better. I did manage to get a lot of reading done despite the coughing and sniffling.
I finished Matched by Ally Condie. This was an interesting young adult dystopia. I found the world building to be more compelling than the romance triangle though.

Undertow: Building Sanctuary, Book 2 by Moira Rogers got me to haul out my Kindle again. This novella length story was the romance between werewolves Victor and Simone. It was all right and added to the bigger story but wasn't very memorable.

Styx's Storm by Lora Leigh was one of the weakest entries in the Breeds series that I have read. Usually, I like this series but this one had such an unsympathetic heroine that I just couldn't get into the story.
Continuing my trend of unsatisfying books, I went back to my Kindle and read The Red Church and Burial to Follow by Scott Nicholson. He make my blog a stop on his 90 day book tour. I felt that I had to read his books. I thought they were slow moving. I also am not a big fan of horror.
Next I chose a complete change of pace and picked up a middle grade book that had been sent to me for review. Selling Hope by Kristin O'Donnell Tubb was historical fiction that took place in 1910 amid the confusion that accompanied the return of Halley's Comet. This was a nice story of a young girl who learned what home really was.

The best book I read this week was Intrigues: Book Two in the Collegium Chronicles by Mercedes Lackey. This refreshing fantasy had likable characters in an interesting setting. I recommend this one. I'll be posting the review on Tuesday.

Since I had good luck with the fantasy, I chose Troubled Waters by Sharon Shinn for my next book.

After that, I really don't know. My TBR stack is as high as an elephant's eye. I'm sure something good will pop out.

What did you read? What's up next for you?

  6. I hope you feel completely better soon, though it's so hard once the school year starts. I have a copy of Matched too, but I hate love triangles, so it might stay in the pile a bit longer. Will you be reading The Lost Hero this week? That's going to be all the rage at my school. (And with me too!)
