It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (September 2, 2019)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup.

Other Than Reading...

I have spent a lot of time blogging this week. I prepared my State of the Stack post and also created posts for all of the review books on my list. Of course, I still have to read the books and pick out favorite quotations but everything I can do ahead has been done. I also finally remembered to go to Amazon and post my reviews for review books. I had so few review books in July and August that I hadn't posted. Now all thirteen of those review books have my reviews posted.

I did have a dentist appointment and have to go back in a week or so to have a cavity fixed. My car is back from the body shop with its little scratches repaired. I'm ashamed to say that I only got out to Curves to exercise one time this week. I was too busy reading, watching baseball, and blogging to get out of the house.

Solar Energy

We got our first power bill during which time we produced solar energy every day. The total was $6.13. Monthly fixed costs for our service fee and other taxes and fees total $9.15. That means we produced everything we used and an excess which lowered the fixed costs. We thought this was wonderful. Now our next question is what will happen in the winter when the days are shorter and the angle of the sun is lower. Can't wait to see!

Reading Report

I read twenty-three books this month including reading one book twice in a row. My page total was 8284. This is my lowest monthly total for both books and pages this year. Eighteen of the books were mine with eleven being rereads. I read 5 review books this month. Fifteen of the books were ebooks. Fifteen of the books were in the mystery/thriller genre with nine of them being historical mysteries.

I added twenty-four books to TBR mountain this month. Only fourteen are still TBR including five of the six review books.

Read Last Week

If you can't wait until the review shows up on my blog, reviews are posted to LibraryThing and Goodreads as soon as I write them (usually right after I finish reading a book.)

  • The Seven-Per-Cent Solution by Nicholas Meyer (Mine) - I pulled this Sherlock Holmes adventure off TBR mountain because I have another by the same author coming up on my review pile. My review will be posted on Sept. 24.
  • A Quiet Life in the Country by T. E. Kinsey (Mine) - This historical mystery was a fun story about a Lady and her maid who move to the country for a quiet life and walk right into a murder. It was narrated by the maid. My review will be posted on Sept. 28.

  • The Books of the Dead by Emilia Bernhard (Review; Oct. 8) - This cozy was set in Paris in the French National Library and had an interesting plot and characters. My review will be posted on Oct. 1.
  • Accepting the Lance by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller (Review; Dec. 3) - This is the 22nd book in the Liaden Universe. I read it twice. First, I gulped down the story. Then I read it again to savor and gather details. My review will be posted on Dec. 3.
  • The Athena Protocol by Shamim Sarif (YA Review; Oct. 8) - This one was a spy thriller as a group of female vigilantes try to take down a human trafficker in Serbia. I liked the characters and the pace of the story. My review will be posted on Oct. 2.

  6. You got a lot done this past week!
I’d really like to get more solar panels, we have them for hot water, but we don’t have room on the roof to generate the electricity we would need.

    Have a great reading week

And wow, what a fantastic result for the solar panels! I told my husband about your results and he immediately started googling solar panels. LOL.

  9. Wow, way to go on the solar energy! That is so awesome! I would love to have a power bill of $15 total - ours was over $200 for August with all that a/c - ugh.

And, also wow on the reading! 23 books in one month? That's astounding! Looks like a good variety recently, too.

Enjoy your books this week -

  10. Good job with the solar! I think we hit a bit over $200.00 during summer with the AC running.
You always impress me with your organization and full reading/blogging schedule.
I liked A Quiet Life in the Country too and the first in the series by Laurie King. I hope you enjoy Language of Bees and a Study in Sherlock.
I was tempted to get Read and Buried at NG. It is hard to control how many I pick.
    Happy Reading!

  11. That is really interesting about your solar power experience. I too would be curious to see what things are like in the winter. Pretty cool.

You have a nice mix of books. A Quiet Life in the Country sounds like a nice read.
