It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (August 17, 2020)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup.

Other Than Reading...

This was another stay-at-home week for me. I did a bunch of walking around the neighborhood while listening to my audiobooks. I even broke 10,000 steps two days and almost got there two more days. We have had a fair amount of rain this week too but it has mostly been raining after dark and not interfering with my walking plans.

It has also been cloudy a lot of the week which is not so good for our solar energy production. We should still be producing most of what we use but we likely aren't going to be adding to our surplus this month again. Of course, we do need the rain and the grass is nice and green.

Read Last Week

If you can't wait until the review shows up on my blog, reviews are posted to LibraryThing and Goodreads as soon as I write them (usually right after I finish reading a book.)
  • Shadows of the Dead by Spencer Kope (Review; August 25) - Entertaining mystery with a main character who has a unique paranormal talent. My review will be posted on August 19.
  • Mission of Honor by David Weber (Mine; Audiobook) - The 12th in the Honor Harrington series was 23 hours and 43 minutes of space battles, political intrigue, and interesting characters. My review will be posted on December 23.
  • A Rising Thunder by David Weber (Mine; Audiobook) - The 13th in the Honor Harrington series was 15 hours and 55 minutes of action and intrigue. My review will be posted on December 30.
  • Shadow of Freedom by David Weber (Mine; Audiobook) - This is the 3rd in the Saganami Ialand spin off of the Honor Harrington series and stars Admiral Michelle Henke. My review will be posted on November 5.
Currently
  • Shadow of Victory by David Weber (Mine; Audiobook) - I'm at 31% of this 32 hour and 48 minute book.
  • Ink & Sigil by Kevin Hearne (Review; August 25) - I'm at 32% of this first in a new series by Hearne.

Want to See What I Added to My Stack Last Week?

I added to my review stack this week.
  • A Trace of Deceit by Karen Odden - I received this print book from the author who emailed and asked if I would like to read it.
  • Absence of Mercy by S. M. Goodwin (Nov. 10) - I got this historical mystery from NetGalley.
  • The Bright and Breaking Sea by Chloe Neill (Nov. 17) - I got this start to a new series from NetGalley.
  • Marion Lane and the Midnight Murder by T. A. Willberg (Dec. 29) - I found this historical mystery at NetGalley though I find it hard to believe a mystery set in the 1950s really qualifies as history since it is more like current events for me.
  • Portrait of Peril by Laura Joh Rowland (Jan. 12) - I got this historical mystery at NetGalley.
  • A Curious Incident by Vicki Delany (Jan. 12) - I also found this mystery at NetGalley.
What was your week like?

  1. Your posts are always filled with good books and interesting news.

We haven’t had rain for weeks. We have had tons of sun which would be good for your solar panels. :)

I am enjoying EVERY minute of this heat. I do not like winter and its cold temperatures. I just hope the winter won’t be brutally cold since we had all these wonderful high temperatures for most of the summer.

Have a good one, and take care.

  2. If I've ended up leaving two comments apologies (feel free to delete this one!) but I had to sign back in when I clicked publish.
Enjoy those books and hope you have a great week.

  3. Sing Like No One's Listening and Ink & Sigil both look especially promising. You certainly don't need to worry about running out of books.

We hope to get a little rain this week. Always we have worries about hurricanes, so I hope we only get a little.

    Have a good week.

  4. Wow, your walks sound wonderful! It has been too HOT to walk here most of the summer, though this week looks to be nicer and less humid. I have missed my daily walks.

What a great bunch of books you've been reading - looks like some good variety. Enjoy your books and your walking this week!

  7. Oh very nice! I am now waiting for my copy of Kelley's book to arrive. B&N shipping for members has gone off the reservoir in being timely, so much for that membership payoff this year!

Hope you enjoy your reads lined up for this week!

    Here's my Monday Wrap-up

  9. Here in Oregon, we were supposed to hit triple digits over the weekend. I don't think we quite managed it, but that was a blow to my pre-conceived notions of the cool, rainy Pacific Northwest. Needless to say, I got my walks (with my audiobook!) in very early in the day. Enjoy your week!

  10. What a great list of books this week. Ink & Sigil, The Deadly Hours, and Death at High Tide all seem good. I'll have to check them out.

The problem with lack of sun is what deters me from considering solar panels. Our house also faces east, and my husband will not put them on the front of the house.

Thanks for visiting my blog today.

  11. Ooh, I forgot Kevin Hearne has a new series! I was listening to the Iron Druid Chronicles on audio back when I was still using CDs and transferring them to my iPod. They’re hard to find as downloadable audiobooks from the library, but I liked them so much I went on to his Tales of Pell series.
Our kids are home visiting for the first time since Christmas so I’m enjoying some family time. We staying close to home and planning just a few socially distanced, outdoor visits to other family while they’re here.

  12. Glad your walking is going well! I need to get back on track, mine has been slacking lately with all the hot weather. I've seen the new Kevin Hearne around and just saw a good review for it- hope you're enjoying it.

  14. I’m trying to get 10000 steps in each day, I feel better for it. I’m constantly watching our solar meter, it’s amazing how much of the house it can power and considering I’m in Scotland the fact it’s powering anything is great!

  16. I've been walking more and try to hit 5000+ each day. It's a change for me and it's been a great way to get audiobooks in. Great books, all new to me. Have a great week!
