It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (August 10, 2020) - New

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup.

Other Than Reading...

I had a pretty quiet week except for an unexpected dentist appointment after I lost part of a filling on a front tooth. I had a couple of days of discomfort before my appointment mainly because the remaining tooth was sharp and I kept catching it on my lip. But all is well now with my new filling.

I also took a couple of long walks early in the week since the temperatures had dropped out of the "very hot and humid" range. Late in the week the heat and humidity were back and I stayed at home. Otherwise nothing new and different happened where I live.

Read Last Week

If you can't wait until the review shows up on my blog, reviews are posted to LibraryThing and Goodreads as soon as I write them (usually right after I finish reading a book.)
  • Death at High Tide by Hannah Dennison (Review; August 18) - First in a new cozy series starring two sisters. My review will be posted on August 12.
  • Every Step She Takes by Kelley Armstrong (Mine) - A real page turner of a thriller which has hints of the #MeToo movement with intriguing characters and a very fast paced plot. My review will be posted on August 15.
  • The Silence by Kendra Elliot (Review; August 25) - A return engagement for Agent Ava McLane and Detective Mason Callahan has them searching for a murderer and ending up deep inside a conspiracy. Lots of action and lots of plot twists and turns. My review will be posted on August 18.
  • At All Costs by David Weber (Mine; Audiobook) - Book 11 in the Honor Harrington series was 32 hours of political intrigue and space battles. My review will be posted on Dec. 16.
  • Storm from the Shadows by David Weber (Mine; Audiobook) - This is the second in the Honor Harrington - Saganami Island spinoff and stars Honor's best friend Michelle Henke who is also an admiral in the Manticoran Navy. She has been posted to the Talbot Quadrant and needs to fend off Manpower's plots in order not to begin a war with the Solarian Navy. My review of this 30 hours story will be posted on October 22.
  • Torch of Freedom by David Weber and Eric Flint (Mine; Audiobook) - This is the second book in the Torch spinoff to the Honor Harrington series and stars Anton Zilwicki and Victor Cachat along with a host of others. It takes place mainly on Torch and on Mesa. My review of this 21 hour story will be posted on October 29.

  6. Oh, wow, I can relate to the tooth issue. I had broken off a bit of my crown and it was the sharpness that kept causing discomfort before the appointment. That happened to me over a year ago, though; during a Pandemic, it would be so much more difficult.

Stay safe and enjoy your books.

  10. We've been avoiding the dentist during the pandemic but my husband had a toothache that led to a root canal a few weeks ago. He was happy with all their covid procedures and precautions. I'm glad you were able to get your filling fixed quickly!

I enjoy Susanna Kearsley but I haven't read one of her books in a while. I should look to see what's available at the library. Enjoy your week!

  11. I had the same problem, lost a filling, and now I have to go to the dentist too. Sigh. Glad the process went well for you. I won't lie, I'm a little nervous about it, but I'm sure it'll go fine.

Your books look good, especially the Kevin Hearne one.

    Have a good week!

  14. I really liked American Royals but it was probably because the author came to our town to speak. I've heard that the second book in the series is out now.

Nothing worse than something in your mouth that causes pain.

We are getting up earlier and earlier to beat the heat. Now we try to step out of the house no later than 6:30. And some days it is still eighty degrees.

    Have a good week!
