It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (Feb. 15, 2021)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup.

Other Than Reading...

Well, the impeachment trial is over with predictable results. Now it is left to the civil courts if former President Trump will ever face justice for his actions of January 6. It was interesting listening to Senator Mitch McConnell as he danced around the question and argued for both sides after the vote was taken.

Meanwhile, watching the trial did keep me indoors while it was well below zero for daytime highs here in Minnesota. My brother mentioned that it was 28 degrees below zero when he got up at 8 this morning. When I'm writing this at 3:30 PM it has gotten up to 3 degrees below zero. The cold is supposed to linger on for most of the upcoming week too. My mammogram is tomorrow which will get me out of the house for a while.

I plan to spend the rest of the week reading and listening. I have lots of audiobooks that I am really eager to hear even though I don't have space on my calendar to review them until May.

Read Last Week

If you can't wait until the review shows up on my blog, reviews are posted to LibraryThing and Goodreads as soon as I write them (usually right after I finish reading a book.)
  • Silver Master by Jayne Castle (Mine; Audiobook) -- This was an entertaining paranormal romance that takes place on another planet settled by people from Earth and then cut off from it. My review will be posted on May 11.
  • After Glow by Jayne Castle (Mine; Audiobook) -- Another paranormal romance also set on Harmony. Fun characters and interesting psychic powers. My review will be posted on April 27.
  • Flying Too High by Kerry Greenwood (Mine; Audiobook) - The second Phryne Fisher mystery was filled with wonderful period details and great characters. My review will be posted on March 16.
  • Blood Ties by Kay Hooper (Mine) -- This oldie has been on myTBR mountain for more than ten years. It was an intriguing mystery will all sorts of psychics. It is the 12th in the series but stood alone well. My review will be posted on February 27.
  • The Windsor Knot by SJ Bennett (Review; March 9) -- This intriguing mystery stars Queen Elizabeth II as a detective who uses her skills and her people to solve the murder of a young pianist who was her guest at Windsor Castle. My review will be posted on March 3.
  • Faithless in Death by J. D. Robb (Mine) -- The 52nd In Death book was another excellent adventure with an intriguing plot and intriguing and well-developed characters. My review will be posted on March 27.
  • Blood Heir by Ilona Andrews (Mine) -- Spinoff of the Kate Daniels series was an excellent urban fantasy with wonderful worldbuilding. My review will be posted on March 4.

What was your week like?

  1. I'm interested in both A Promised Land and The Awakening. I looked at your reviews of both books and am now more intrigued. I loved listening to Michelle Obama's book. Hearing her voice in these trying times was calming. I'm sure his book is very interesting to listen to. Happy reading and try to stay warm!

  2. It's time for McConnell to retire, in my opinion. It has always irked me that he has so much power, yet he's only one senator from a state I can't vote in. You've got some great looking books there! The Windsor Knot sounds fun. I can see the Queen as fine detective! Enjoy your week, and thanks for stopping by my blog!

  3. I've read and enjoyed quite a few Kit Rocha books - in fact I have a couple that are on my "to read in 2021 tbr". The Spellmaker looks good too.

  4. Every time I read your page, I'm reminded to check to see if THE WINDSOR KNOT is in Libby yet (it isn't). I've had my eye on that book for a long time.

Stay warm! Those temps are just terrifying! - Melinda @ A Web of Stories

  5. I've never in my life been in temperatures that cold. Tonight it will go down to 18 degrees here, they say, and I'm worried about that!

I think it is amazing that you have your review schedule completely books through May. That's wonderful.

    Have a great week.

  6. Brrr! I sure don't miss the days in central NY when our high temps only got to zero.Would never have survived without my SmartWool socks. I really want to listen to A Promised Land, but the length intimidates me. Might have to make it a read/listen combination. Stay warm!!

  7. I am eager to read A Promised Land sooner rather than later. It is on my shelf, waiting, but I think I must start reading it now, even if I can only read a little bit a day.

I need his kind of inspiration after the last four years that we've suffered under the presidency of a narcissist!

Enjoy your week and your books!

  9. Good luck with your mammogram. The trial outcome was predictable but I was still disappointed.

Your books all look so good. Enjoy them and have a great week!

  10. I hate the cold, so I would be hiding indoors if we had temperatures that far below zero. Hope you both are staying safe and warm.

The Lost Village looks really good. Hope you enjoy your books.

Thanks for visiting my blog today.

  11. I steered clear of the impeachment news, as I figured it was going to go that way. I'll just bury my head in my books, thank you! ;) Glad you're getting some good winter reading time!

  12. I snuggle in when I visit in Illinois and it gets to 10 or 11. Below 0 is not weather I would want to feel. I hope you and your brother stay warm.
My mammogram was clear a few weeks ago and I hope yours goes well too.
I have been eyeing Spellmaker - I hope you enjoy it and all of the rest of your reading!

  13. I like the sound of The Windsor Knot. It is available on a wish list on Netgalley so I've done that. The Susanna Kearsley is the other book which I'd like to read.
The cold sounds really harsh. I did not know that America could get so very cold!!!! its 31 plus here today! and humid.

  14. Oh my word that’s cold! I can’t even imagine it!
Sadly the outcome of the impeachment trial was inevitable, I hope he and other will be held accountable in the justice courts instead,

Wishing you a great reading week

  15. It’s really cold here too. On Valentine’s Day, the high was -13 and the low was -21. That’s why we didn’t do anything for Valentine’s. I hope you’re having a good week!

  16. The impeachment trial results were expected but still disappointing. I didn't catch any of the trial because I was working, but I read about it in the evenings. The Kay Hooper book looked familiar. I may have read that one back in the day. I used to read her books regularly for awhile there. I hope you enjoy your new books! Cajun Kiss of Death looks cute. Have a great week, Kathy!

  17. I'm a Canadian who follows the US politics quite avidly. It was definitely a disappointing result, and hopefully, Trump will still get his comeuppance politically. Let's hope New York has a few convictions waiting for that family.

  18. Yeah there's some really great books there and authors! J.D. Robb, Ilona Andrews and Sarah Beth Durst! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
