It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (April 11, 2022)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

I will be combining my YA and adult reading and purchases on this one weekly roundup.

Other Than Reading...

This was another interesting week. For the third week in a row, we had a wintry mix mid-week that reminded all of us that Spring has not arrived in the Northland just yet. According to the National Weather Service, we have had 8 inches of snow so far in April. We are expecting our fourth midweek rain/snow event this coming week too and today areas just north of me are under a Winter Weather Advisory. I do hope it stays north because I have to drive my brother to his eye doctor appointment tomorrow and I haven't driven since winter began back in November.

I have been enjoying the start of the new baseball season this past week and have watched lots of games. This looks like something that will continue into October as I follow my Atlanta Braves as they try to repeat last season's success.

My reading this week has been a little interrupted. I started listening to A Stitch in Time by Kelley Armstrong but decided that I would have to read or at least read-along that one. When the narrator went into the strong Yorkshire accent, I couldn't understand a word of what she was saying. My Minnesota trained ear couldn't translate! That meant I had to find a new audiobook. I chose a reread from my collection - On the Edge by Ilona Andrews - which I first read in 2009. It inspired me to get the rest of the series in Kindle and Audiobook so I could read them again too. I already have and have read the print copies of the series.

I added quite a few other new books to my collection this week too. I got seven books for review from NetGalley including one with a really short turn-around date. I took advantage of four Kindle Daily Deals, added six new audiobooks, and discovered an author I always read had slipped a new book past me. And finally, a book I pre=ordered quite a while ago was finally released. There are so many that I want to read immediately that I'm having trouble sticking to my plan of reading May Review releases first.

Then, late in the week, I was led by a post on Facebook to the Fated Mates podcast and spent a couple of hours. First, I listened to the Nora Roberts episode. It was interesting to finally hear the voice of an author I've read for years. That podcast led to the Jayne Ann Krentz episode which I also really enjoyed except for the fact that it made me really want to reread all the books they talked about which are all on my keeper shelves.

Read Last Week

If you can't wait until the review shows up on my blog, reviews are posted to LibraryThing and Goodreads as soon as I write them (usually right after I finish reading a book.)
  • The Agathas by Kathleen Glasgow & Liz Lawson (Review; May 3) -- This YA thriller stars two teens from opposite sides of the economic divide who need to team up to solve a murder. My review will be posted on April 27.
  • On the Edge by Ilona Andrews (Audiobook Reread) -- First in an urban fantasy series by some favorite authors. I read the print book years ago and reread via the audiobook. My review will be posted on April 28.
  • The Target by Catherine Coulter (Audiobook from Chirp) -- This was an entertaining romantic suspense title from early in Coulter's long-running FBI Thriller series. I may have read it before when it was released in 1999, but didn't remember anything about the story. My review will be posted on May 5.
  • The Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood (Review; January 7) -- Entertaining cozy with three unique detectives. My review will be posted on April 28.
  • When She Dreams by Amanda Quick (Review; May 3) -- This latest in her Burning Cove Historical Romantic Suspense was a great story filled with interesting characters and snappy dialog. My review will be posted on April 30.
  • The Wrong Victim by Allison Brennan (Review; April 26) -- Entertaining thriller in the Quinn & Costa series. Lots of interesting characters and a really twisty plot. My review will be posted on April 20.

  1. Ugh I am so sick of this neverending winter! Hopefully we get full spring soon. :)

  2. I used to read Catherine Coulter's series years ago and I remember I enjoyed them. I wonder if that would hold up if I was to revisit the series again.
Oops, the baseball season slipped by me and I haven't watched any yet. I think we only get limited coverage here unless you buy the sports package.

Midnight Dunes is on my tbr wishlist already and I almost requested Bear Witness so I wonder if you enjoyed it.

  3. I don't think I could manage living where it is snowing and cold so much of the time. I have visited many places like that off season, and thought of living where there are actual seasons. But I stay on in California, LOL.

Enjoy your books and your week.

  12. We had such a nasty hail storm on Saturday. It came out of nowhere. Thankfully, Sunday was nicer.

Great books this week. Adult Assembly Required and From Bad to Cursed caught my eye.

Thanks for visiting my blog yesterday.

  13. We've been getting snow here too, and it's not fun. Hope the drive and the appointment went well! I really enjoyed the Stitch in Time series as ebook-the second book I stayed up till 2 AM or something because I couldn't put it down, but an Ilona Andrews book you can't go wrong! And I know, so many amazing books out there, and so little time! I got a few ARC's in the past 2 weeks that I've just had to drop everything to read them, which I enjoyed, but also meant that I had to deal with the dropped books! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!

  14. Ah, I miss baseball! When we cut cable and went to streaming, we lost the ability to watch anything other than whatever ESPN wanted to show us. We could have paid for MLB All Access EXCEPT you can't do that for your in-marked team, which was "our" team. Sigh! Since then, we've mostly just watched football! - Melinda @ A Web of Stories
