Book Review: I Only Have Eyes for You by Bella Andre

I Only Have Eyes for You
Author: Bella Andre
Publication: Oak Press, LLC (February 21, 2012)

Description: Get ready for another Sullivan to fall in love in Bella Andre's bestselling contemporary romance series!

BOOK DESCRIPTION: Sophie Sullivan, a librarian in San Francisco, was five years old when she fell head over heels in love with Jake McCann. Twenty years later, she’s convinced the notorious bad boy still sees her as the “nice” Sullivan twin. That is, when he bothers to look at her at all. But when they both get caught up in the magic of the first Sullivan wedding, she knows it’s long past time to do whatever it takes to make him see her for who she truly is...the woman who will love him forever.

Jake has always been a magnet for women, especially since his Irish pubs made him extremely wealthy. But the only woman he really wants is the one he can never have. Not only is Sophie his best friend’s off-limits younger sister...he can’t risk letting her get close enough to discover his deeply hidden secret.

Only, when Sophie appears on his doorstep as Jake’s every fantasy come to life—smart, beautiful, and shockingly sexy—he doesn’t have a prayer of taking his eyes, or his hands, off her. And he can’t stop craving more of her sweet smiles and sinful kisses. Because even though Jake knows loving Sophie isn’t the right thing to do...how can he possibly resist?

My Thoughts: Finally, one of the Sullivan girls has her romance! Sophie, the Nice to her twin sister's Naughty, has loved Jake McCann since she first met him as a five-year-old and he was a mature ten-year-old. He and Zach are best friends and he has always been a part of the Sullivan family. That is lucky for Jake because his own family life was less than ideal. His mother left when he was small and his father was an alcoholic who beat him when he had too much to drink. He managed to hide all of that from Sophie though.

Now they are both grown-up and Sophie has decided that it is time to let Jake know how she has always felt about him. Jake is a very successful owner of a string of pubs. He also has all the women he could possibly want. He isn't willing to admit that he measures all of them by Sophie and finds all of them lacking. He certainly isn't willing to admit to anyone—even himself—that he has loved Sophie since he first saw her too. He has deep insecurities that make him believe that he isn't worthy of her.

Sophie does manage to seduce him the night of her brother Chase's wedding. They have amazing sex and she confesses her love. Jake can't deal with that because he knows he doesn't deserve someone as special as Sophie. So he sneaks out of the bed while she is sleeping and disappears from her life.

But Sophie isn't able to write him off and move on. Besides a broken heart he left a heck of a souvenir—Sophie is pregnant. When she goes to tell him and to tell him that she doesn't want anything from him, his world is rocked. He finally has a chance to have everything he has always wanted but was afraid to even dream he could have. All he has to do is convince Sophie to give him another chance.

But Sophie is no longer Nice. She knows what she wants and what she deserves and marrying a man who is choosing her only because she is pregnant is not what she wants. Jake has his work cut out for him before these two find their own happy ending.

I fell in love with both Sophie and Jake and think any other romance reader will too.

Favorite Quote:
Growing up, Jake's neighborhood had been rough enough that he'd quickly learned to do whatever he had to do to make sure he walked away in one piece, Right, wrong, none of that mattered when your life was on the line.

This time, three lives were on the line—his, Sophie's, and their child's—and he'd fight as dirty as he had to for them.
