It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (Jan. 14, 2013)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

It’s Monday!  What Are You Reading, is where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week.  It is a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list.

This past week had some odd weather for January in Minnesota. It was warm enough to melt the snow and we had a couple of days of light rain and dense fog. Naturally, those were the days I had to drive into Rochester for doctor's appointments. The visibility was not good! Of course, it could have been much worse. January is blizzard season in Minnesota.

Here is what I read:
I finished books 5 - 7 in the Sullivan series of spicy contemporary romances. I enjoyed If You Were Mine, Let Me Be the One and Come a Little Bit Closer by Bella Andre. They made me hungry to read more contemporary romance and reminded me why I like that genre so much. My review for If You Were Mine will be posted on Jan. 16. The review for Let Me Be the One will be posted on Jan. 18. And the final book - Come a Little Bit Closer - will be reviewed on Jan. 20.
I read Circle of Lies by Sara Dailey and Staci Weber which I received for review from Boroughs Publishing. This was the sequel to Pack of Lies and is an upper young adult werewolf series. I liked the story and thought it was well-written and had characters I could care about. My review will be posted on Jan. 17.

Finally this week, I read Goblin Secrets by William Alexander. This middle grade fantasy won a 2012 National Book Award. I thought it was engaging and would appeal to middle grader readers. I'll see because I'll be donating my copy to my Middle School. My review will be posted on Jan. 17.

Next week I have these books on the stack:
Luck of the Draw by Kelley Vitollo is so new that it doesn't have a cover yet. I just got the PDF today. I will have a post on Tuesday debuting the covers and blurbs of two new books in the Bliss line of Contemporary romances by Entangled Publishing. I will be hosting an interview by the author on Jan. 22 and will have a review on Jan. 23.

But before I get to Luck of the Draw, I have an ARC of Ever After by Kim Harrison that is next on my reading pile. This is the eleventh book in the Rachel Morgan series. I am excited to read this one because I recently caught up on the series and want to know what happens next.
Also on my review stack are Shattered Souls by Delilah Devlin which I received from Amazon Vine and The Spanish Revenge by Allan Topol which I received from Meryl L. Moss Media Relations.

These are the next review books on the young adult stack.
Black Ice by Andrew Lane is the latest in his young Sherlock Holmes series. I got the ARC from Macmillan Children's Publishing Group.

The Last Station Master by S. A. M. Posey is a middle grade story about the Underground Railroad and modern terrorists that I received from the author.

Hysteria by Megan Miranda is an eARC for NetGalley that I will be reading before participating in a blog tour.

After Black Ice I have some time before I need to read the other two books which won't be published until February. I plan to do some browsing on my YA TBR mountain which I just moved to my TBR room—otherwise known as my office—to see what might appeal to me. Take a look at my new YA TBR mountain:

I have been busy organizing and re-organizing around here. I went through almost all my pantry cabinets this weekend and got rid of outdated cans, boxes, etc. and grouped things together so that I have a better idea about what I have. Can anyone explain why I had three different bottles each of garlic powder, Italian Seasoning and Ground Cinnamon? Or why I would have Ground Turmeric at all? I just have my rice and pasta cabinet to go. Who knew there were so many kinds of rice and so many shapes of pasta.

Then, if I get up the courage, it will be time to sort through the Tupperware and other plastic containers cupboard. I think they are breeding in there!

I hope everyone has a great week. Let me know what you are reading. Leave a link and I will be sure to visit.

  1. Oh, I'm jealous you've got an ARC of the new Kim Harrison novel. Can't wait to hear about it! I've been reorganizing here too. I've found prescriptions that are five years old and I haven't even lived in this house that long!

  7. Looks like you had a great week...both in reading and in organizing things. I do enjoy getting things into a semblance of order, but it usually takes longer than I'd planned. Good luck!

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  8. It's been warm here in NJ too. I'm glad I never got around to putting the warm weather clothes away - who knows what we will need next??

The Young Sherlock Holmes series looks intriguing. I just finished some Sherlock Holmes stories last week.

  10. Congrats on all that reorganizing, I'm impressed! Seems like weird weather is happening all over, I'm in Denver and it's been unusually cold with multiple days below freezing. Usually this time of year we're at least in the 40s!
